Nottingham City Council Latest Performance Headlines
The City’s Council Plan sets out our purpose, priorities and values for 2012-2015 in
which we’ve set 11 priorities to work towards. Between April and June of this year, the
City Council made good progress towards delivering these key priorities. Some key
headlines are:

“Your neighbourhood as clean as the city centre”
We are making excellent progress towards our neighbourhoods to be as clean as the
city centre. All wards have met our targets for cleanliness and are now achieving the
city centre benchmark standard. The recent Citizen Survey showed 80% of citizens are
satisfied with the cleanliness of City Centre and 74% are satisfied with the cleanliness of
their neighbourhood. Perceptions of neighbourhood cleanliness are improving and
incidences of graffiti, fly-tipping, and dog fouling are being dealt with quickly by fast
response teams operating 7 days per week. Nottingham City Council is a finalist in the
2014 Clean Britain Awards to challenge for England’s Cleanest Big City title.

“Cut crime and halve Anti-Social Behaviour”
Crime continues to show a reduction. Crime is down 16.6% at the end of July 2014,
based on a 2010/11 baseline. ASB has met its agreed target reduction of 50% as at the
end of March 2014 (using a like-for-like comparison). Successful outcomes for drug
treatment clients are on target and better than the national rate (18% in June 2014).

“Cut unemployment by 25%”
Unemployment has fallen by 23.3% since 2011, and by 29.8% since reaching its peak
in March 2013. In July 2014 the number of Job Seeker Allowance claimants was at its
lowest level since December 2008. The Council’s Employment and Skills Team has
helped 4,000 local people into jobs, with 1,000 people getting jobs through the
Nottingham Job Fairs over the past two years.

“Nottingham offers a range of leisure activities, parks and sporting events”
A full programme of events continue for 2014. May 2014 saw champion cyclists
compete again in the second year of the Milk Race. The amount of vacant shops
continues to decrease and is at its lowest level since 2012.

“Good access to public transport”
Nottingham has retained its high levels of bus accessibility in the face of strong
budgetary pressures. Its network of subsidised ‘Link’ routes has expanded slightly and
is in the process of being operated by the largest fleet of electric buses in Europe. User
satisfaction with an increasingly high quality public transport system remains high and
passenger levels increasing despite fare levels increasing above inflation. Construction
continues at a pace on lines 2 and 3 of the tram, due to open in the first part of 2015.

“Support effective early intervention activities”

Attendance in schools continues to improve with absence in primary schools at its
lowest level since 2012.

“Deliver effective, value for money services to our citizens”
Our customer satisfaction levels are better than last year with more citizens being
satisfied with the service they received
