The best previous total was 127 (15-under) by Rocco Mediate in 2013. It is also the lowest-36hole total on PGA TOUR Champions in 2016 -- Bernhard Langer (128/16-under at Chubb Classic) and Rocco Mediate (128/14-under at Senior PGA Championship) had the previous low. Maggert’s 36-hole total of 126 was also the lowest on Tour since 2012 -- Kenny Perry (18-under 126 at ACE Group Classic) and Jay Haas (14-under 126 at Charles Schwab Cup Championship) posted a similar total. He is bidding for his sixth title on PGA TOUR Champions and first since winning the 2015 DICK’S Sporting Goods Open, one of four wins a year ago. Is also bidding to be the second player this year to defend a title, joining Bernhard Langer (Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship). Became the 17th Champions Tour player to win his debut when he captured the 2014 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. He is one of 10 players to win on all the PGA Tour sponsored major tours (PGA TOUR, Web.com Tour, and Champions Tour). He was a three-time winner on the PGA TOUR, the most recent coming at the 2006 FedEx St. Jude Classic. His other wins came at the 1999 World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and the 1993 Walt Disney World Oldsmobile Classic. He was the leading money-winner in the inaugural year of the Ben Hogan Tour in 1990 with $108,644 and was named as the Player of the Year on that circuit that season after a pair of victories. Maggert played on the American Ryder Cup team in 1995, 1997, and 1999 and on the U.S. Presidents Cup team in 1994. He is the only golfer to have more than one double eagle in a major championship (1994 Masters Tournament; 2001 Open Championship). He got as high as 13th in the Official World Golf Ranking in 1999. Shaw Charity Classic R2 Notes… In the previous three Shaw Charity Classics, Rocco Mediate is the only second-round leader (2013) to go on to win the event. In 2014 there was a three-way tie for the lead with Joe Daley, Bob Tway and Joe Durant, but Fred Couples’ final-round 9-under-par 61 led to his win. Last year Colin Montgomerie and Miguel Angel Jimenez were tied after 36, but Jeff Maggert closed with a 6-under-par 64 for the win. Bernhard Langer has a streak of 49 consecutive holes without a bogey dating back to the final round at last week’s Boeing Classic. In fact, Langer has made just two bogeys in his last 90 holes. Bernhard Langer will begin Sunday’s final round four strokes behind Jeff Maggert and will be making a bid for his 30th career win on PGA TOUR Champions which would move him into sole possession of second place on the all-time victory list behind Hale Irwin (45 wins). It would also be his fifth win in 2016. Todd Hamilton’s 7-under-par 63 was his low round on PGA TOUR Champions and it helped him jump from T48 to T7. His best previous effort was a 66 at the Allianz Championship and the Regions Tradition in 2016. Carlos Franco will join Jeff Maggert and Bernhard Langer in the final group after posting a 7under-par 63 on Saturday. It was his low round on PGA TOUR Champions. His previous low was a 65 in the final round of the 2015 Toshiba Classic. The last time Carlos Franco was in this position (second) was in 2005 at the 84 Lumber Classic where he was among three players tied after 54 holes at the event. He eventually finished second, one behind Jason Gore. Franco’s best showing on PGA TOUR Champions is a T8 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Open this year. A week after finishing T6 at the Boeing Classic, Fred Funk is enjoying another good week. He’ll begin Sunday’s final round T4. Should he prevail on Sunday, he’d become the 23rd player over the age of 60 to win on PGA TOUR Champions and the first since Craig Stadler at the 2014 Encompass Championship near Chicago. It would also be Funk’s 10th career victory on Tour and the first since he teamed with Jeff Sluman at the 2014 Bass pro Shops Legends of Golf. Mark O’Meara withdrew after nine holes on Saturday with a bad back. He had posted 10 consecutive rounds in the 60s in this event prior to the start of Round Two.
