“No Name” Newsletter - Ottawa Pickleball Association

Vol. 1, No. 1, November 2015
“No Name” Newsletter
Ottawa Pickleball Association
Hello Pickleball Enthusiasts ….. As President of the Ottawa Pickleball Association,
I am very excited to welcome you to the very first edition of our monthly
Newsletter. It’s so new we don’t have a name for it, hence the title “No Name”.
Welcome
You will receive the Newsletter monthly so you have all latest information on
pickleball right at your fingertips. The website will still have the schedules, where
to play, rules, etiquette, and Facebook will show the informal side of pickleball with
links to videos and the website. The newsletter will be a snapshot of what is
happening in the sport of pickleball in Ottawa and other regions. Included in the
snapshot will be upcoming events, tournaments and other exciting features.
So…please submit any ideas, newsworthy pickleball events, interesting stories and
photos to Cathy Denault, our Newsletter editor, so she can share with all our
readers. We hope you enjoy the Newsletter.

Hello everyone and it is an honour to be able to contribute to this Newsletter.
Pickleball has come a long way in the last few years. We have had growth in our number of players and
growth in playing opportunities. And in the last 12 months we have seen the introduction of organized
play, including leagues and ladders. As Ambassador, I have a great interest in seeing the playing
experience of our players improve. Positive things flow from that, including growth. But your
enjoyment is the number one priority and you can expect to continue to see new playing ideas tried
out. It is a time of experimentation and we will learn and adapt based on how things go. This sport can
be as competitive as any other sport, but it can equally be a
wonderful recreational activity. And both these streams are
for all ages. I encourage you to introduce family and friends
to this addictive sport. As evening and weekend playing
opportunities grow, those who are still in the work force can
get the thrill and fun of this sport.
And I want to take a moment to thank all those who
contribute incredible efforts to making pickleball a growing
and successful sport in this city. Every place to play, every
clinic, every lesson, every league, every tournament are
thanks to pickleballers getting involved. As we grow, people
with ideas and energy will be instrumental in managing that
growth for the benefit of all. You can be part of that too!
Thanks so much all you amazing “pickleballers".
Michael David, Ottawa Pickleball Ambassador

The OPA is only a successful growing Association if we have
volunteers for the many planned activities. We are calling
upon our OPA members to step up to assist at the various
playing sites. Duties could include responsibility for nets,
collecting fees, be the contact person at the various sites, and
managing site quota numbers, to name a few. If interested,
please email Penny Slater - [email protected]
