The objective of the game is to create a road and collect as many resources as possible by the
end of the alloted time.
Preparation
Facilitators
23 facilitators
Facilitators should read the sections in these directions that have quotes and that are italicized.
Number of Players
6 players in total.
There are two teams with 3 people each.
Materials used
35 40 Stones(or similar small objects)
10 sheets of Paper sheets
(Size: 1 * 1 feet / 25 * 25 cm)
Game Setup:
1. Space Setup (Map Attached: Triangles represent stones)
Scatter stones evenly in the space.
However, the stones in level 3 are more than level 2. The stones in level 2 are more than level 1.
Square Space: 30m * 6m (90 feet * 18 feet)
Divided into three parts.
2. Facilitator
When the game starts, two facilitators will stand separately at the two points as shown on the
map. They should also take responsibility to monitor players and remind them about the time.
Game Rules:
Scenario:
(Facilitaor reads:) “In your village there has been a disaturous flood!. During the flood each one
of you in your team has become injured. One of you has hurt one leg, one of you has hurt your
right arm and the other has hurt your left arm.”
“Due to your injuries your team can only move in a specific formation.
You must lock yourself together by hooking your injured arms. The team memeber with the
injurged leg must lift their leg and hop while the team moves.
Now choose your team member who is going to have his/her leg injured and arms injured.”
(20 seconds)
Setup Pose
“Now the flood is over. The road is washed out, and resources have been scattered all over. You
have to build a path to move forward and collect resources to support your village.”
(Make sure everyone is clear where the finish line is.)
“During your journey, there are two emergency red cross facilitators.”
You have two options when you reach either of the facilitators.
(1) go to the facilitators and pay stones to treat the injured people. By doing that, you can
free/unlock whatever part you like. Then you may move faster and freely.
Note: Each injured part will cost 3 stones to treat.
OR
(2)Walk past the facilitator without taking any action and go on collecting resources.
How to build the road (See the picture attached)
“Each group has 5 paper sheets. These are boards to cross the mud. Everyone needs to move
ON the paper sheets. You need to at least step on the sheets, otherwise, you will slip drown in
the water. You can pass the sheets to each other to build the road that your group can walk on.”
Demonstration and pratice time: (30 seconds)
“Now we are going to run a practice round, remember the following......
● Pick up a paper sheet.
● Put it down in the direction you’d like to go.
● Step on it.
● Pass the paper sheets to each other.
Remember the stones on the ground represent your resources to rebuild your village after
disaster. With the more resources you collect, your team wins. All of you can collect stones as
long as you can reach it. ”
How the game ends:
“There is a time limit of 6 minutes”
(*Notice: time can be adjusted according to the size of location.)
“Make sure you collect more stones than the other team. The first team that reaches the end
line (your village) needs to yell “Game Ends.” And the other team should stop the collecting. The
game will stop.”
Discussion:
How did your group make decision?
How did you decide whether or not to treat a member?
If there was disagreement, how did you resolve it?
Did your strategy change as you moved forward your goal?
If you were to play this game again, how would you change the game so that your groups
are able to move faster?
What conflicts or difficulties did you find during the game?
