How to Post a Reply to the Discussion Group

Basic Discussion Guide
1. Enter the Discussion by clicking
the link on the Navigation Bar.
2. The first page of the Discussion
displays the available Strands
(Reading, ESOL, etc).
3. Within each Strand are Forums
related to that strand.
4. Click a Forum title to view
the associated Topics.

5. Click on the Topic you are
interested in.
6. After reading the Messages within
the Topic, you may choose to reply
to a Message or question, or you
may add a new Topic.
7. To add a new Topic, click ADD
TOPIC.
8. To reply to a Message or question,
click ADD REPLY.

9. The reply field (and the new Topic
field) offers various functions for
the text. These include, cut, copy,
paste, undo, redo, bullets,
justification, font type, size, style,
color, highlight, bold, italicize,
underline, strike-through, super and
subscripts. Note: Since the
Discussion times out in 15 minutes,
it is recommended that messages be
typed in Word or some other text
editor first, then copied and pasted
into the text area.
10. By checking the Subscribe box, you
will be emailed when someone
responds to your message.
11. Notice that the “smiley icon” shows
up in text in this field, but the icon
will display in the forum. To post
your entry, click Post Reply.

12. Your Message now displays on the
forum page.
13. As the author, you can edit your
Message. To do so, click EDIT.
14. In the editing text box, you may
make any necessary changes to your
Message. You may then Update
Post.
15. From this screen you may also
delete your Message by clicking
Delete Post.

16. If you delete your Message, you
will get a note that your reply has
been deleted.
17. When you are finished in the
Discussion, you may return to
your course by clicking the link to
return to Beacon Online Courses.
