The Sport England Challenge
Create a Marketing
Campaign......
.......for an event to encourage sports activity
for young people aged 18+.
How will you ensure 100+ people attend?
How will you promote the benefits?
You'll need to get people excited and get
people taking action!
Sport England - about the organisation
Sport England is focused on helping people and communities across
the country create a sporting habit for life. They are investing over £1
billion of National Lottery and Exchequer funding between 2012 and
2017 in organisations and projects that will:
•Help more people have a sporting habit for life
•Create more opportunities for young people to play sport
•Nurture and develop talent
•Provide the right facilities in the right places
•Support local authorities and unlock local funding
•Ensure real opportunities for communities
They are accountable to Parliament through the Department for
Culture, Media and Sport.
‘Sport Makers Programme’
Building on the huge Olympic and Paralympic success, Sport England’s
‘Sport Makers Programme’, funded by the National Lottery, plans to
recruit thousands of new sports volunteers (aged 16 years and over) to
encourage and facilitate sporting activities across the country.
"Sport Makers are holding an inspiring event workshop near you! Come
along, get involved and find out how you can become a 'Sport Maker'. It's
your chance to promote sport participation, supported by a team of
experts from Sport England."
About ‘Sport Makers’
‘Sport Makers’ are the people who directly make sport
happen at the local level.
Some ‘Sport Makers’ will organise sport for themselves
and their friends, colleagues and neighbours. Others
won't be taking part themselves, but will be doing all
those other things that make the sporting activity
possible.
‘Sport Makers Programme’ - The Challenge
Sport Makers need your help in promoting their mission, and finding
volunteers. The best way they can do that is by holding events across the
country.
They already have the plan for the event, now all you have to do is get
your marketing hat on, and tell us.......
How would you market the event to get the best
turnout?
Task 1 - Your Marketing Strategy
You need to start by creating the marketing basics,
a logo and a tagline.
Your ‘Sport Makers’ logo can be simple but needs to relate to and compliment
that of Sport England.
Your tagline needs to be catchy and engaging as well as embracing the spirit of
the ‘Sport Makers Programme’.
Task 2 - Social Media
Social Media is a free and easy way of engaging with a potentially huge
audience, however it’s easy to get lost in such a saturated medium!
Develop a plan for the use of Social Media to ensure you make the most of this
resource.
• Write your engaging ‘blurb’ for the ‘About’ details on Facebook and Twitter
• Decide upon any images you would like to upload that would further interest a follower
• What angle could you take for an inspiring blog? e.g follow a participant? countdown to
the event?
• Who could you follow on Twitter and potentially link with?
• What Tweet content could you # in order to connect with relevant subjects and really get
people inspired to take action?
• When would be the best time to focus Tweets and posts to get the largest target audience
possible e.g during local football matches
Task 3 - More Marketing Ideas
What other advertising devises could you use to inspire your target
audience? Think outside the box to really excite people into action!
Mascots!
Sporting FlashMob!
Get a local celebrity or
Sports Personality on board!
Create a Jingle!
Mind Map all of your ideas going into as much
detail as possible
