You are looking to open a car accessory shop and need to access the
product variety and expected amount that people would spend. Present
your findings in the form of a report.
One of the main areas is the fitment of alloy wheels and their subsequent
implication on the vehicles speedometer accuracy.

This assignment could include the following

Design a Questionnaire sheet which could capture the following
 Age
 20 Male/20 Female
 Own vehicle
 Accessories etc
 Range of costs they may spend e.g. £0-100 etc



Compare costs using appropriate calculations e.g. mean
Display data using appropriate charts e.g. determine most popular accessory
Determine the effect of changing wheel size on rolling radius and hence %
speedometer error
E.g.14” wheel diameter convert to metric and add tyre profile such as
R45 = 45mm wall height so we would get
14*25.4 + 45mm x 2 = overall diameter
Circumference = D or 2r
Work out original and compare as a percentage


Develop appropriate graph e.g. tyre profile difference against % error to
original wheel combination
Incorporate additional information from car magazines

Designing Your Own Workshop (Assignment Two)
As an Engineer you have decided that you want to start your own
business, which will provide services in your field of expertise. You are
required to write a report (including your plan) to the management on the
suitability of this business.

The assignment could include the following

Produce detailed scale plans of the layout and equipment that you require for
the workshop. Note use an odd shaped building e.g. L/Y shaped
 Find the sizes of the machinery that you will use
e.g. manual lathe 1.75m X 0.75m x 1.5m (include any information that you
have sourced from the Internet/catalogues)
 Determine the volume of the workspace to ensure that it complies with Health
and Safety requirements for recommended working space.
 Determine the amount of money needed to buy the equipment and show what
your monthly repayments could be using a realistic loan period and loan
graph/chart
 Conversion graph of feet to metres could also be used
