What is Football?
• Popular sport mostly played in Canada and
America
• Objective is to score the most points
• Points are either scored through touchdowns
or field goals
• Games are played with 4 quarters of 15
minutes each
Objective
• Try to be the team with the most points
• Three different units: offense, defense, and
special teams
• Offense’s job is to score points
• Defense’s job is to prevent the offense
• Special teams is responsible for all kicking
plays

• The offense tries to move the ball forward and they want to
score a touchdown or kick a field goal.
• A touchdown is worth 6 points and a field goal is worth 3
points.
• They can move the ball forward either by
passing or by running the football.
Defense
• The defense tries to prevent the offense from
advancing up the field and scoring points.
• They can get the ball from the offense either
by forcing a turnover.
• Another way they can get the ball from the
offense is if a offense decides to punt
Special Teams

Are responsible for all kicking plays
Usually come on the field on 4th downs
Also responsible for kickoffs
Includes the kicker and punter
Come of the field after touchdowns
Offensive Positions
• Include the wide receivers, quarterback, tight
end, halfback, and offensive line
• Wide receivers run and catch the ball
• Quarterback throws the ball
• Tight ends block and catch
• Halfback runs the ball
• Offensive line blocks for the quarterback
Defensive Positions
• Include the linebackers, defensive backs, and
defensive line
• Defensive backs include cornerbacks and
safeties
• Linebackers tackle the offense
• Defensive backs cover the wide receivers
• Defensive line pressures the quarterback
Downs

Offense has 4 downs to move the ball 10 yards
A new set of downs after 10 or more yards
Lose possession if failing to get 10 yards
Can also choose to punt or field goal
Line where play starts called the “Line of

Can be on offense or defense
Results in loss of yardage on penalized team
Offense can choose to accept or decline the
penalty
• Yards lost depends on the penalty
