Set a goal for your class or your school for the Erase Hunger Food Drive. Estimate both how many cans and how many meals you want to collect. Remember that $1 = 4 meals and 1.2 pounds equal one meal. Create a survey using three facts about hunger in Oklahoma. Use the survey to find out how aware your peers are about the need. Trace your food by creating a timeline of what you’ve eaten over the last few days. Did you waste good food? How can you and your city limit the amount of good food thrown away daily? Write a short public service announcement on this topic. The Food Bank has three larger than life forks that travel during the month. Email [email protected] to schedule a picture day with the fork at your school during the month of September. Write a poem about the fight against hunger. Use information from the list of hunger facts. Architects are designing structures made of cans that will be constructed at the state fair. Design your own “canstruction.” How many cans will you need to create it? Write your local official about the issue of hunger in Oklahoma. Give him or her one solution to fighting it. Go Orange! Join us in wearing orange throughout the month of September to show your support for our fight against hunger. Where’s the Fork? The Food Bank has three larger than life forks that travel during the month. Check the okfoodbank.org site and try to guess where in the state the fork has been so far this month. The community finds creative ways to raise funds for those in need. In a group, plan a fun event that will also help a local soup kitchen or pantry. Call the Food Bank to schedule a tour and find out more ways you can get involved with fighting hunger. Learn five ways that the body is affected by a skipped meal. Draw a picture of the effects you learn about. The Food for Kids corn maze in Pumpkin Town is an elaborate design. If you wanted to create a corn maze, what would the design look like? Collect change for one day. Determine how many meals you’ve created with pennies, nickels, quarters, and dimes. Create meals for a family of four for three days using the food you’ve collected from the drive. Share these menus with your peers. Take a picture of your food drive results. Email your photo to [email protected] and you might see yourself on our website! Calculate how many meals you’ve created for those in need through your drive. Create your own “fork” of awareness in any art form you want. Ask teachers to take pictures with your school forks!
