Spring Fling Single Round Finals Rules Scoring • • • • Successful completion of a route will be scored as a “TOP”. An attempt is successful if the route has been climbed in accordance to the rules and the rope has been clipped into the carabiner on the final quickdraw of the route within the fixed time period. When a competitor has fallen, or had their attempt terminated, the furthest hold CONTROLLED or USED in the line of the route shall determine the competitors score. o Scorable holds will be deemed as such prior to the start of the competition by the judge and head route setter. o Only holds used by the hands will be considered. o Only parts of an object (hold, volume, wall feature, etc.) that are usable for climbing will be considered. o Holds are considered CONTROLLED when the competitor has made use of the hold to achieve a stable or controlled position. The score assigned for controlling a hold will be the number assigned to that hold. o A hold from which a competitor has made a controlled climbing movement in the interest of progressing along the route will be considered USED. The score of a competitor using a hold will be the number assigned to that hold with a plus (+) suffix. This score is better than the score for controlling the same hold. o No points will be awarded for clipping. However, all safety rules must be followed and the final draw must be clipped to score a TOP. An attempt is considered terminated if the competitor; o Falls o Exceeds the fixed climbing time o Uses any part of the wall, holds, or features demarcated using continuous black tape. o Uses t-nuts. Bolt holes on holds are ok. o Uses bolt hangers or quickdraws for climbing. o Fails to clip the quickdraws in accordance to the rules. o Returns to the ground with any part of their body after beginning their attempt o Uses artificial aid Technical Incidents • • Safety In the event of a technical incident the judge can grant the competitor another attempt, and decide when in the order the competitor will get their next attempt. If the climber chooses to continue climbing after the technical incident has occurred, they may not declare a technical. • • • • • • The lead judge and head route setter may decide to pre-clip the first (or higher) quickdraw when appropriate. Must use figure eight. 4” tail or stopper knot is required. Other backups may be approved by the judge. The belayer will perform a safety check prior to the climber beginning their attempt. During an attempt, competitors must clip all the quickdraws in sequence. If the competitor’s entire body has moved beyond the first unclipped quickdraw their attempt will be terminated. Any movement of a climber beyond a legitimate position to clip will not result in a higher score. If a competitor back clips or z-clips they must fix the quickdraw(s) prior to moving beyond a legitimate position to clip. General • • Competitors are not permitted to use headphones while competing or observation. Competitors are not allowed to gain information about the route or other competitors attempts of the route while in isolation.
