Joint Meeting of the Parish Councils
Of Holy Family, St. Mary and St. Anthony Churches
April 2, 2013
I. Update on Alignment Process
Fr. Joe shared that he is retiring June 30th, 2013. He intends to continue
living at St. Mary’s and be as active as his health allows after his retirement.
He shared he is looking most forward to not having to read all of the diocesan
e-mails anymore!
II. Mass Schedule Change Vote
A. Because the Mass Schedule vote was advisory to the Councils, the Councils
considered first what reasons or principles would move them to over ride
the vote of the parishioners. The Councils did not find there to be any reason
for over riding the vote of the people.
B. The Ad Hoc Committee then shared the results of the vote. (see attachment #1
below for summary of voting.) Fr. Steve proposed and gained support for the
moving of the Saturday evening Mass from 8:00pm to 6:30pm. So the new
schedule will be:
Saturday 4:00pm
Holy Family Willard
Saturday 6:30pm St. Anthony Loyal
Sunday 8:30am
St. Mary
Greenwood
Sunday 10:30am St. Anthony Loyal
III. Implementation Issues
A. It was agreed that then new schedule would begin April 20 & 21.
B. It was agreed that Fr. Joe and Fr. Steve would begin rotating Masses the
weekend of May 11 & 12 after First Communion celebrations were over.
C. There was significant discussion about making it possible for people from one
parish to exercise their ministry at another (Lector, Altar Server, etc).
1). Fr. Joe & Fr. Steve will meet April 4th to review ministry guidelines.
2) Leaders in liturgy from the three parishes will meet soon to finalize job
descriptions for liturgical ministers.
3) A workshop for liturgical ministers from all three parishes will be held
before summer to make everyone comfortable with serving in any
parish.
D. All were in favor of moving, in time to a single Bulletin for the three parishes.
Until then we could begin sharing information and when ready, schedules of
ministers for the liturgies.
E. It was agreed that a letter, the same letter signed by both pastors, should be
sent to all of the members of all three parishes informing them of the
change in Mass schedules.
E. It was also felt that we needed to communicate through the letter and bulletins
that Contribution envelopes will be returned to their parish of origin. Fr. Joe
& Fr. Steve said they would speak to the pastors of surrounding parishes to
assure they would do the same.
IV. Future Meetings of the Joint Councils.
A. The next meeting of the combined councils will be June 11th at 7:00pm in the
Church Hall at St. Anthony’s Church.
B. The Agenda will include
1) Review of Mass Schedule implementation
2) Consider further cooperation with Religious Education Programs
Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm.
