ADMISSIONS We are registered with the Scottish Care Commission to admit children between the ages of 12 weeks to 11 years. Parents are welcome to visit the premises at any time to be shown around and introduced to staff. Each child starting Bright Horizons will be offered a pre-visit. This visit will last about an hour and parents or carers will stay with their child for the whole visit To ensure your child’s ‘settling-in’ time runs as smoothly as possible, we recommend you and your child visit as often as it takes for them to feel happy to be without you. This will vary from child to child but it is important for everyone to feel secure (no charge will be made for these visits). This will help you meet your child’s key worker and see at first hand our daily routines. Confidence in the nursery comes from knowing and understanding what is happening within it. Contact, dialogue and discussion will help promote this. All parents will receive a copy of the Bright Horizons parent’s handbook. Bright Horizons employs staff who have been assessed by Disclosure Scotland. Admission to Bright Horizons will be from a waiting list drawn up by the date of application. Places will then be filled by order from the list, providing the vacancy meets the requested hours. Should your requested hours not exactly meet the vacancy available then the place will be offered to the next applicant on the waiting list whose requested hours meet the available vacancy. On acceptance of a place at Bright Horizons all parents/carers will be required to complete and sign both conditions of attendance and an enrolment form. It is the responsibility of the parent/carer to ensure the emergency contact numbers are kept current. On withdrawing your child from Bright Horizons you are required to give one month’s notice or pay one month’s notice in lieu. BRIGHT HORIZONS - AIMS AND OBJECTIVES Our key principles are: We believe that care and education are integral We believe that children are best supported when parents and staff work together Our curriculum is play based, because we believe that children learn best through supported play experiences We believe that children need to be respected in order to respect We believe that the learning environment must be planned to ensure that children are provided We will support the children to use resources and the environment in a way that will develop their independence and problem - solving skills We will help the children to develop positive relationships with other children and adults In order to foster the children’s positive sense of self and self esteem, we will ensure that the experiences, family background, interests, abilities and cultural heritage will be positively celebrated and reflected across the Day Care Centre. We believe that it is very important to provide staff with training and development opportunities so that they, in turn, can provide the children with effective learning and teaching. We work hard to be part of the local community, accessing local resources so that the children have a sense of connection and belonging. We endeavour to network with other professionals for the benefit of Bright Horizons To deliver pre-school education experiences in line with national and local advice inclusive of the five curricular areas. We want to give every child and young person the best possible start in life. These principles apply to every part of our service. The ‘Curriculum for Children aged 3 – 5 years’ is the basis for our planned learning activities. Our children have the opportunity to develop their interests and skills in all five key aspects of the curriculum. Emotional, Social and Personal skills, Expressive and Aesthetic, Communication and Language, Knowledge and Understanding of the World and Physical and Movement skills. Activities include painting, role-play, music, small world toys, large equipment, sand and water play, book corner, home corner and many more. A number of our activities include wet and messy play therefore parents are requested to ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for these activities (not their best clothes). The children will have access to our indoor and outdoor play area on a daily basis. Parents are asked to provide a change of clothing and a pair of ‘indoor shoes’ in a bag marked with your child’s name and leave on the child’s peg. Starlight Room 1 Starlight Room 2 INDOOR HALL In addition to the six nursery rooms Bright Horizons has a large indoor hall. The hall is used for developing physical skills on challenging apparatus and encouraging community spirit with activities such as the annual nativity play and cultural festivals. Hall 1 Hall 2 OUT OF SCHOOL KIDS CLUB Bright Horizons provides ‘Out of School’ care before and/or after school and during school holidays/In-service days. We offer children care in a safe and stimulating environment, while parents are able to work, study or pursue other activities with peace of mind. Children have the opportunity to use the computer, television/video, craft, games, large indoor and outdoor play areas and help with homework. A different range of activities will be planned for children attending during school holiday periods. We hope that your child will feel it is their club rather than an extension of school. Children will be escorted both to and from Leuchars Primary School by qualified staff; however, the responsibility for the behaviour of each individual child either to school or to Bright Horizons lies with the parent of the child concerned. Parents are requested to complete a registration form for all children attending the ‘Out of School Kids Club’. Please provide your child with a pair of soft indoor shoes, clearly marked, these can be left on your child’s peg. After school snacks will be provided by Bright Horizons.
