Hannibal, Mo. – The Lindenwood – Belleville baseball team ended a program-best eight-game win streak with a 10-7 loss at Hannibal – LaGrange on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lynx (20-19) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Trojans (21-23) in the top of the first, as an RBI double from Kyle Forsythe scored Sean Keeney for the first run of the
day. Forsythe would score as Jake Degener was thrown out at first, creating the 2-0 lead.
The Lynx added a run in the top of the third, as Degener doubled to left-center and scored off a single by Dylan Skinner who was thrown out trying to reach second. The Lynx
extended their lead, 3-0.
The Trojans answered in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs, including a two-run homerun, to take a 6-3 lead over LU – Belleville. One more run in the bottom of the fifth,
followed by three more in the bottom of the seventh and suddenly the Lynx found themselves down 10-3.
The Lynx didn't give up, as Forsythe tripled to deep right-center, scoring off an RBI single by Meier in the top of the ninth. Skinner singled to left and Christian Cavaness reached
on an error to load the bases. A big-time double by Cody Walker sent Meier and Skinner home, to close the gap 10-6. Cavaness then scored on a wild throw by the Trojans,
bringing the score to 10-7. Despite the hard fight, the Trojans got the next two outs to hold on for the win, 10-7.
Andrew Williams (3-4) was handed the loss going 2.1 innings, allowing five runs off seven hits and one strikeout.
Forsythe went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored. Skinner went 3-for-4 with a walk, RBI and one run scored, while Walker went 1-5 with a two-run RBI double.
The Lynx will host Crowley's Ridge this weekend beginning with a single game Friday at 1 p.m. Saturday is the team's “Go Red” game as they team up with the American Heart
Association to raise funds and awareness for the fight against heart disease in women. First pitch is set for noon at GCS Ballpark.
