This position manages the development and implementation of SCUW’s volunteer engagement
strategies in support of our mission and Vision 2020. This requires close coordination with
internal staff (Community Impact, Resource Development and Marketing), and relationship
management with external partners (volunteers, agencies, corporate partners and community
initiatives). This position is accountable to the Vice President of Community Impact.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and relevant work experience.
 Excellent oral and written communication skills; an effective listener and presenter.
 Strong degree of integrity. Highly ethical approach to all aspects of assigned
responsibilities.
 Strong executive presence; professional with personal confidence and maturity.
 Demonstrated ability to participate in work and/or volunteer teams.
 Well organized, strong on follow-through.
 Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
 Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
 Personal volunteer experience.
 Experience with volunteer recruitment and management.
 Demonstrated capacity to participate effectively in community partnerships.
 Experience with grant proposal development and grant management.

Job Description

This position manages the development and implementation of SCUW’s volunteer engagement
strategies in support of our mission and Vision 2020. This requires close coordination with
internal staff (Community Impact, Resource Development and Marketing), and relationship
management with external partners (volunteers, agencies, corporate partners and community
initiatives). This position is accountable to the Vice President of Community Impact.
Volunteer Engagement Committee – Build the capacity of this committee to develop, support
and promote volunteer engagement strategies. Provide primary staff support to the
committee (e.g. agenda planning, strategy development) to ensure that SCUW effectively
engages the committee to add value to our volunteer strategies.
Community Impact – Work with Community Impact staff and community partners to develop,
manage and/or support volunteer engagement activities that support individual and
community change aligned with SCUW’s vision.
 Education – use of volunteers to connect youth with resources to support success in and
out of school.
 Financial Stability – use of volunteers to connect low-income households with resources
that support financial stability and asset building:
o Coordinate with AARP Tax Aide to support free tax preparation services in
Spokane County, with a focus on households eligible for EITC.
o Coordinate SCUW’s VITA tax site.
 Health – use of volunteers support and enhance delivery of services to individual
impacted by trauma and adverse childhood experiences.
Corporate Engagement – Coordinate with Resource Development staff to connect SCUW’s
corporate partners with volunteer activities aligned with SCUW’s mission and Vision 2020.
Includes:
 Coordinating with community agencies in support of group volunteer events.
 Developing and managing volunteer projects that can be completed at the work site.
Community Engagement –
 Oversee use of SCUW’s volunteer portal, VolunteerSpokane.org. to support SCUW’s
strategies and volunteering in general.
o Serve as primary administrator of the portal.
o Ensure that it is a current and effective resource for agency partners and
community volunteers.
o Ensure that SCUW is effectively using its capabilities to support our strategies.
o Identify key metrics and track results.

Manage SCUW’s engagement with and support of community initiatives such as
Spokane Gives, with a focus on project and volunteer recruitment aligned with SCUW’s
Vision 2020.
Participate on staff team to develop and manage SCUW’s annual Day of Action.
Communication and Brand Recognition: Coordinate with SCUW’s Marketing and
Communications staff to promote SCUW’s strategies and volunteer engagement.
 Assist with development of promotional materials.
 Support effective use of social media, SCUW’s website and VolunteerSpokane.org.
Resource development:
 In coordination with Resource Development staff, identify and secure sponsorships and
“productization” opportunities to support our volunteer strategies.
 Identify and secure grants to support SCUW’s volunteer engagement strategies.
 Manage use of grants, reporting and compliance.
Data and Results:
 Identify indicators and track results for SCUW’s volunteer strategies.
 Ensure that the data management capabilities of VolunteerSpokane.org are effectively
integrated with or used to complement the capabilities of other data platforms used by
SCUW (e.g. Enterprise, Constant Contact, Results Scorecard).
