VP of Operations Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) [email protected] | 814.459.4581 x 446 GECAC PROVIDES FREE VEGETABLES AND FRUIT TO SENIORS Erie, PA — Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) announced that GECAC Erie County Area Agency on Aging will be distributing $20 vouchers for the purchase of Pennsylvania produce through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The program is intended to encourage more low-income seniors to incorporate fruit and vegetables into their diets. The vouchers were made possible by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. To be eligible, a senior must be an Erie County resident, 60 years of age or older in 2016 and meet the income guidelines. Income eligibility is based on the total household income and on the number of people living in a household. 1 Person Household $22,311 or less 4 Person Household $45,510 or less 2 Person Household $30,044 or less 5 Person Household $53,243 or less 3 Person Household $37,777 or less Add $7,733 for each additional person Eligible seniors may receive vouchers, while supplies last, through one day events as listed below. Seniors will be required to attend the distribution site and date per the zip codes areas indicated. For zip codes not listed, seniors should go to the site closest to where they reside. Eligible seniors must show proof of age and residency (not income) at the distribution site (driver’s license, PA ID, Birth Certificate, current utility bill other official mailing with address). Seniors may appoint someone else (Proxy) to pick-up their vouchers for them. A Proxy Form must be picked up in advance of the date, be completed in full, signed and brought to the distribution site. Proof of age and address for the senior must be presented by the proxy, as well; the proxy will need to show their own ID. Proxy forms may be picked up at any of the GECAC Senior Centers or at the Main GECAC Office, located at 18 W. 9th Street in Erie, or they may be mailed upon request. Proxy’s may not proxy for more than four seniors. Last year, GECAC provided $70,000 worth of vegetables and fruit to 3,500 Erie County seniors through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
