HISTORY
Haji Fazal-ur-Rehman
The Managing Director of ZECO SHOES, Mr. Haji Fazal-ur-Rehman was a well-known leather
contractor and dealer in Abbottabad region in early 1970s. After some years, he diverted towards
leather shoe making and started business in 1978 initially with 6 employees. His idea of
handmade leather was warmly welcomed by the people and a few more employees were hired to
cope with the continuously increasing demand of shoes. The employees hired were very trained
and efficient. Most of them belonged to Punjab and a few from Peshawar also. This shoe
manufacturing firm got a turning point when Lieutenant General Ghulam Ishaq, former
Governor of Punjab, placed an order of shoes in 1982. After observing quality and standard of
shoes, he declared them the most quality oriented and durable shoes of Pakistan, and also
awarded it “BEST SHOE-MAKER AWARD 1983".
At that point, Mr. Fazal-ur-Rehman biased in favor of Registration of his company. He registered
his firm in 1983 under the name ZECO SHOES. Now, ZECO SHOES became very popular
among elite class as well as middle class and its progress increased day by day. Besides its
progress, its expansion also took place by time to time under the supervision of its founder.
In 1992, ZECO SHOES manufactured leather shoes for NAWAZ SHARIF and was again
declared as BEST HANDMADE SHOE MAKER COMPANY of PAKISTAN. ZECO shoes
were displayed and admired in Bahrain in 2001. After that exhibition, ZECO also started
exporting its shoes.
ZECO also played an active role in rehabilitation of Afghanistan in 2003. In 2004, a leather
shoes outlet store of Manchester, JAMIRI, offered a showcase to ZECO so that its shoes could
be displayed there.

INTRODUCTION
ZECO SHOES COMPANY is working efficiently in Abbottabad region from 1978. Its head
office is in Cantt plaza Abbottabad. It has more than three outlets in different regions of Hazara
Division. It is a sole-proprietorship and is doing direct marketing in a very efficient way. ZECO
is introducing new and innovative designs in leather shoes. ZECO is a very famous brand name
in Abbottabad due to its reliability, quality and affordability. Besides shoe manufacturing, ZECO
also acts as a display center for imported brands such as Gucci, Timberland, woodland and
Caterpillar. ZECO is providing best quality products in an affordable price. Market survey
revealed that the customers of ZECO are very loyal to this brand and they have not found any
alternative in the market ye

OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of ZECO are listed below.
1. The objective on which ZECO was founded is to provide more and more employment
opportunities to the skilled personnel.
2. The main objective of ZECO is to provide high quality handmade footwear to the locality
of Abbottabad.
3. It’s the objective of ZECO to improve quality as well as durability of the products.
4. Service excellence is one of the objectives of the ZECO.
5. ZECO’s employees are committed to put their all energies, resources and time to bring
higher value and satisfaction to their customers.
DEPARTMENTS
Currently there are three departments working in ZECO.
1. Purchasing Department

3. Selling Department
PURCHASING DEPARTMENT
Purchasing department is directly related to the owners. The owner of ZECO on his behalf,
purchase best quality pure and fresh leather from Lahore and also imports buckles and other
material which might be helpful in production.
PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
There are 25 trained shoemakers who work in production department and manufacture shoes for
gents. The production of shoes is carried out under the supervision of owner. The employees are
paid heavily so that they are most likely to manufacture best quality footwear.

SELLING DEPARTMENT
Selling department of ZECO consists of four outlets. 2 of them are working in Abbottabad, 1 in
Haripur and 1 in Muzaffarabad. There are 4 administrators of these outlets. Each outlet has a
couple of trained salesmen who serve the customers who visit them.

It is situated in Jadoon Plaza Phase I, in front of Army Burnhall Senior.
ZECO SHOES, HARIPUR
It is situated on GT Road, opposite Yahya Walfare Trust, beside Mir a Bakers.

This outlet is situated in main bazaar muzaffarabad.

PRODUCTS
ZECO is dealing in handmade leather foot wears. New designs and styles are introduced on
almost weekly basis according to the fashion. ZECO doesn’t believe in quantity. Its products are
quality oriented.
CASUAL SHOES
ZECO offers a variety of casual shoes for business class as well as aged people. These
shoes, in comfort and design are still having great demand.

HOW A PRODUCT IS LAUNCHED?
To launch a new product is a very tough job for a company. ZECO’s method of launching a new
product is totally technical. At first, a design is selected by the expertise, and then this design is
referred to production department where a sample is made. During all this process, it is believed
necessary to make that product which will meet the changing demands of the customers. Then,
the sample is displayed in the outlets in order to get feedback from the customers. Regular
production starts if the customers give positive response.

SER VICES
ZECO is the name of quality and its providing best quality foot wears to the locality. It is not
providing any kind of additional services to its customers. But it serves its customers by
introducing new designs and innovations in shoemaking
COMPETITORS
ZECO is one of the top handmade shoemaking firms of Abbottabad region. It has been working
in this region for more than 3 decades. In late 1980s, one of the most important competitors of
ZECO was CHINA BOOT HOUSE. In 1990, ZECO, due to its comparatively strong strategies,
beat CHINA BOOT HOUSE and became the leading firm of Abbottabad in shoe-making
industry. After that, in past two decades, ZECO not only retained its market share, but also
increased it, and beat each and every emerging competitor in the market. Currently there are a
few competitors of ZECO in the market, but still ZECO is the topmost leather shoemaking firm
of Abbottabad.

ZECO is offering new and innovative designs on weekly basis as compared to their competitors. They
believe that they can attract customers if they introduce new designs according to the fashion and needs of
the locality.

ADVERTISEMENT
ZECO is promoting its firm on local TV channels and also through newspapers. The company is
contented to “reminder ads” because it is already a well-known amidst locality. There are not as
such strong promotional activities. The ads are also displayed on billboards.

I used to visit ZECO of and on mostly in summer season for the traditional Chappli just because
of their reliable stitching and pure leather but now I can also get imported shoes for winter ,
that’s why I prefer ZECO because I get all my foot wears variety at a single shop.
