Players of People’s Postcode Lottery see how their money impacts lives of disabled
Scottish youngsters
Hazel Johnstone, Trusts Manager at People’s Postcode Lottery, yesterday visited a youth
club in Edinburgh for disabled children, ran by national children’s charity, Whizz-Kidz, in
order to witness first-hand how the money that players of the charity lottery have awarded is
helping to empower children in Scotland.
The players have raised £150,000 for Whizz-Kidz so far, which has helped Whizz-Kidz’s to
deliver its vital support services across Great Britain, like the Edinburgh youth club, known
as an Ambassador Club. Hazel has seen directly how clubs like this have impacted on the
lives of disabled Scottish youngsters. This club is one of 43 in the UK that provides disabled
children and young people with a place to meet friends, develop skills, and gain confidence.
Deputy Director of Fundraising, Andrew Howell, said ‘We are so grateful to players of
People’s Postcode Lottery for this fantastic support.
‘Because of their help, we are getting closer to reaching the estimated 70,000 disabled
children and young people in the UK who are in vital need of a wheelchair that fits their
lives.’
Hazel Johnstone from People’s Postcode Lottery said, ‘I had great fun today visiting the
Whizz-Kidz Ambassador Club in Edinburgh; everyone had so much fun.
‘It really is fantastic to see how funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery is making
a positive impact on the lives of young people. I look forward to the day when all disabled
children and young people have access to local clubs and specialised wheelchairs so they
can live their lives to the full.’
Whizz-Kidz supports young disabled people to access the right mobility equipment including powered wheelchairs - at the right time; and delivers wheelchair skills-training,
work placements, and other life-skills to help their transition from childhood to adulthood.

About Whizz-Kidz

Whizz-Kidz has changed the lives of nearly 18,000 disabled children since 1990 often literally overnight. The charity estimates there are still over 70,000 children in
the UK waiting for the right equipment to fit their young lives.

The right wheelchair and mobility equipment is not automatically provided on the
NHS. Whizz-Kidz aims to work where possible with local NHS services, and aims to
ensure that much-needed improvements are made in delivering wheelchair services
for children in the UK.

Giving a disabled child a wheelchair is just the start of their journey with Whizz-Kidz.
In your community disabled children and young people are meeting and making
friends at one of our local clubs.

To date, Whizz-Kidz has spent over £300,000 providing 102 children with vital
equipment in Scotland since 2009.
There are currently 44 children on our waiting list for the right wheelchair.
