Innovative Technology
The 1.3-Mp SoC is an SXGA 1280x1024 1/4” format camera,
developed by Cypress’ in-house CMOS imaging experts. It
produces high-quality color still pictures, even under very poor
lighting conditions, and offers a low-power video preview
mode.
The 1.3-Mp SoC combines CMOS imaging technology for high
quality, CCD-like image performance with CMOS-derived high
integration, ease of design, low cost, low power consumption,
as required by high-performance camera phone applications
or by low-cost high-volume applications.

Camera-enabling features
Cypress’s 1.3-Mp SoC integrates a state-of-the art image
sensor core with an advanced Image Signal Processor taking
care of defect interpolation, black level calibration, lens deshading, crosstalk compensation, color mosaic interpolation,
color correction, auto white balancing with illuminant

estimation, auto exposure and gain control, sharpening, noise
reduction, special effects, gamma correction and automatic
50-/60-Hz interference detection and suppression. A programmable rescaler reduces the source image to any smaller
format for easy adaptation to most LCD displays.
The on-chip Camera Control Unit offers Xenon and LED flash
sequencing, low-power standby modes, and fast mode
changeover thanks to dual-context programmable settings
registers. Sensor commands are received through an I2C
interface, and output data is generated in the ITU-R BT.656
format, with embedded and/or external synchronization
coding, and RGB565/555/444.
The chip requires one supply voltage only, and features an
integrated clock multiplying PLL that allows for frame rates of
up to 15 Hz starting from a system clock as low as 9 MHz.
In video preview mode the power consumption is automatically reduced, and one STANDBY pin can be used to switch
off all internal supply voltages.
