Bespoke Adult Support and Protection Training in NHS Accident & Emergency Settings It is assumed that the following learning outcomes are specific to NHS A&E settings and build on knowledge gained through, often mandatory, training as prescribed by individual NHS Boards. Learning outcome theme 1. RESPECTING RIGHTS Individual learning outcomes 1.1 Be clear about the importance of respect and dignity at all times in the adult protection context. 1.2 Be aware of how legislation, particularly Adults with Incapacity, relate in an A&E context. 1.3 Know how to deal with rights and duties– balancing the choice and rights of the person with the protection of an adult at risk of harm. Learning outcome theme 2. RECOGNISE HARM Individual learning outcomes 2.1 Recognise what harm is – with a particular focus in A&E settings. 2.2 Recognise types of harm – as per the ‘ASP Act’ and also related protection issues eg. domestic abuse 2.3 Recognise signs, symptoms and indicators of harm in their context 2.4 Recognise when there are situations where a person may benefit from support or protection (see 1.3) 1 Bespoke Adult Support and Protection Training in NHS Accident & Emergency Settings Learning outcome theme 3. REPORT HARM Individual learning outcomes 3.1Know when to report harm (consideration of rights see no 1) 3.2 Identify it is your duty to report harm – signs, concerns, suspected or actual 3.3 Know who to report harm to – ie the Local Authority both within and outwith office hours 3.4 Know about the ‘3 point criteria’ 3.5 Know what to report & how to report when an adult has been harmed is at risk of harm or you believe an adult is at risk of harm and requires protection. 3.6 Know who to ask or where to access information, if further guidance is required? Learning outcome theme 4. RESPOND & RECORD Individual learning outcomes 4.1 Know how to respond in a person centred manner taking into account: (See no 1) support & capacity/communication needs, views, wishes and feelings of the person, carers, guardian, attorney etc 4.2 Know how to record information & what to record (actions, decisions, discussions, outcomes) 4.3 Know who to share information/records with Learning outcome theme 5.
