Dear Parents/Guardians,
In recognition of Earth Day, our students and staff
recently held an assembly in order to highlight some
of our school-based environmental programs.
Students took part in a wide variety of Green
Activities that surely helped reduce our environmental
footprint on our Planet. Some of the activities
included: weeding and composting our garden plots,
sweeping the rocks from the pavement area back into
the playground equipment, picking up garbage in and
around the school, updating our garden beds with
new 4X4’s, pledging to wear a sweater so that we
could reduce the heat by two degrees, packing a
litter-less lunch for a day as well as a host of other
special events. Thanks to Mme McOrmond and the
rest of the Green Team for these great initiatives.
Please note that our grade 5 students will be traveling
to EMS for an orientation on May 30th. EMS will also
be hosting a meeting for new Grade 5 parents on May
30th at 7:00pm. More information on this will be sent
home soon.
Reminder that if you have a child who will be starting
Grade Primary at New Minas Elementary School, or
you know someone with a child who will be starting
at NMES for the first time, in September 2016, please
phone the school so we can continue to compile our
contact lists as accurately as possible. Please note
that the cut-off date for new primaries turning five is
December 31st of the year they are to start school.
Lastly, I’d like to congratulate Thomas Murimboh
who recently won a Regional Science Fair Award for
his project De-Tangled Proteins. I'd also like to
congratulate our choir and Ms. Frampton for their
Gold Medal performance at Music Festival, and for
being awarded the University Women’s Trophy for
highest scoring choir.

PTA
April has been a productive month for the PTA!
We’ve started running the WeDo Lego robotics
program on Thursday afternoons. So far it’s been a
great experience for the children involved and we
look forward to continuing the program. A big thanks
to Shari Hadley and Catherine Nathanson for
volunteering to run the program every Thursday
afternoon 
This past weekend was the first Mini Monster Sale
at NMES. It was a huge success!!! Thanks to
everyone who donated items and baked goods,
volunteered their time, came to check it out, or joined
as a vendor. Also a big shout out to Tammy Millet
who founded this sale and is helping us to continue it.
We look forward to running this event twice a year
(in September and April).
Finally, as we look forward to May and June, we
want to announce that we will be having a Family
Fun Day at the beginning of June. There will be a
free-will BBQ and fun and games for the family. This
will be in place of the Fun Fair, but will be just as fun
and will be a much more relaxed atmosphere. Please
feel free to contact [email protected] with
any questions or concerns.
Donations
We would like to thank The Atlantic Superstore, Pita
Pit, and Walmart for their ongoing support of our
students and programs. Also we would like to thank
Theresa King for her donation of a popcorn maker.

Late Arrivals
Students settle into their morning routine at school
each day at 8:05 a.m. Parents and guardians are
encouraged to bring their child(ren) to school prior to
this time to optimize learning and ensure morning
routines can be followed. Children who arrive late
miss important morning routines in their classrooms
which include a review of the daily schedule. These
classroom organizational times establish routine and
provide students with a positive start. Thank you for
your support with this matter.

May in the music room at lunch time. Forms will go
