BASIC EDUCATION



Basic education is compulsory and free
for everyone.
It consists of 10 years of schooling
carried out between the ages of 6 and
16.
Basic education is organized into:

The Spanish
Law also
organizes

ORGANIZATION
Infant education (Ages 0 to 6).
 Primary education (Ages 6 to 12).
 Compulsory secondary education (Ages 13 to
16).
 Bachillerato / Intermediate level vocational
training (Ages 17 to 18).

It includes children from birth to the age of 6.
 It is voluntary.
 It is organised into two cycles:

The first cycle (from birth to 3).
 The second (from 3 to 6).This cycle is free.


Main aim: To develop the physical, affective, social
and intelectual development of children.

Primary education starts from age 6 to 12.

This stage is compulsory and free.

Main aim: Facilitate learning in oral and written
expresion and comprehension, calculation, basic
notions of culture and habits of coexistence, of study
and work, etc, preparing them for the next educative
stage.



CSE lasts 4 years between the ages 12 to 16.
CSE is organised according to 2 principles:
1. Access for all students to core
education.
2. Attention to students diversity.
The purpose:
To acquire the basic cultural elements.
 To develop and to consolidate study and work
habits.
 To prepare them for their incorporation into
higher education or the labour market.

•Students advance to the next year when they
pass all the subjects or when they fail no more
than 2 (excepcionally 3 if they are not Spanish
language and Maths.)
•Students may only repeat the same year once
and may only repeat twice during the whole of
the secondary stage.
Natural sciences.

 Social sciences,
geography and
history.
 Spanish language and
literature and, if
applicable, the coofficial language and
literature.
 Foreign language.

Mathematics.
 Plastic and visual
arts.
 Music.
 Technology.
 Education for
citizenship and
human rights.

practice.

Students who are in possession of the
Certificate in CSE may study
bachillerato.

Bachillerato consists of 2 years and it is
a post-compulsory secondary education.

Bachillerato offers different modalities :




a) Arts.
b) Sciences and technology.
c) Humanities and social sciences.
In order to access university, students
will need to pass one single exam.
It aims to prepare students to carry out a
range of jobs in a professional capacity.
It consists
