Key stage 4
All pupils must have the opportunity to study aspects of information technology and computer science at sufficient depth to allow them to
progress to higher levels of study or to a professional career.
All pupils should be taught to:
develop their capability, creativity and knowledge in computer science, digital media and information technology
develop and apply their analytic, problem-solving, design, and computational thinking skills
understand how changes in technology affect safety, including new ways to protect their online privacy and identity, and how to
identify and report a range of concerns.

Suggested Method of Delivery
Students at Key stage 4 told us clearly that they were completely switched off by re-hearing the same eSafety messages. They
want to discuss real life current issues. Probably your best resource will be the newspapers and TV.
If they have not been used earlier some of the Key Stage 3 topics could be used however we have linked to a number of resources
below.
What is taught needs to be fresh and current.

South West Grid for Learning Digital Literacy and Citizenship
Our Colleagues at the South West Grid For Learning have produced an excellent scheme of work for E-Safety and Digital Literacy using
the free Common Sense Media resources
You can find it at http://www.digital-literacy.org.uk/

Each Year scheme has a downloadable PDF/word document linked from the website and each lesson has a link to the relevant Creative Media Resource on
their website. For example below is the grid for Year 10 lesson 1 . As you can see it has a link “Talking Safely Online” to the Common Sense Media Resources
and in the second column links to other resources.

Another excellent E-safety resource is the Byte eSense Awards that has been produced by Somerset Education Technology Team.
https://slp.somerset.gov.uk/cypd/elim/somersetict/Site%20Pages/e-safety%20pages/e-sense%20Somerset%20BYTE.aspx
This resource provides progressive e-safety schemes of work for each year group from EYFS to Key Stage 4. Resources also
include learner assessment sheets, teacher recording sheets, posters, stickers, certificates and award level webapps. They can all
be downloaded and an App is now available.
