The Computing Curriculum is made up of three strands, Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy. Digital Literacy is the ability to effectively responsibly safely and critically navigate, evaluate and create digital artefacts using a range of digital technologies. (David Brown July 2014) Develop an awareness of their responsibility to keep themselves, other people and their community safe online. Be aware that online grooming has different forms e.g. radicalisation by extremist groups, gangs and O.C.S.E (Online Child Sexual Exploitation). Be aware that there are online content and communication channels which have a negative impact on the mental health of young people e.g. eating disorders, self-harm and suicide. Understand how their positive and negative digital tattoo affects their employability and ways of managing this. Understand that both employees and employers have responsibilities online. Become a critical digital consumer and know the law in terms of online consumer rights and gambling Understand why, and be able to identify and use, visual design principles in the production of digital artefacts Effectively design and create a range of digital artefacts for an increasingly remote audience and document feedback and subsequent adaptation Understand that the use of technology impacts on society from the perspective of social, economic, legal, ethical and moral issues Understands the law around the Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act and Copyright and the consequences of transgression. They want to discuss real life current issues. Probably your best resource will be the newspapers and TV. If they have not been used earlier some of the Key Stage 3 topics could be used however we have linked to a number of resources below. What is taught needs to be fresh and current. Resources also include learner assessment sheets, teacher recording sheets, posters, stickers, certificates and award level webapps. They can all be downloaded and an App is now available.
