CAUTION IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LOCATING AND INSTALLING THE CONCRETE FOOTING FOR YOUR BASKETBALL POLE – READ THIS PAGE FIRST! IF THE STEPS ON THIS PAGE ARE NOT FOLLOWED, IT MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE A 10'-0" GOAL HEIGHT. A. B. Locate center of footing/post as detailed in Step No. 1 on page 2. From Detail “A”, determine the DIMENSION X you must use, according to the model number you are installing. Measure and locate the point on the playing surface, equal to DIMENSION X from the center of the post – the tip of the goal will be located directly above this point. See Detail “A”. You will need a straight 2 x 4 piece of lumber at least 7' long, a 1" thick spacer block, and a level. Locate the 1" thick spacer block on the playing surface at the point below the tip of the goal, DIMENSION X from the center of the footing. One end of the 2 x 4 will rest on this block. Detail "A" TIP OF GOAL 3'-0" (09431-000) 2'-11" (09531-000) 4'-0" (09532-000) 10'-0" NOTE – Top of concrete footing must be located 1" above playing surface AT TIP OF GOAL. If playing surface is sloped, then it will be necessary to locate the point on the playing surface that is directly below the tip of the goal, and level the top of the footing from that point. Follow the steps below: LEVEL DIMENSION X 5'-2" (09431-000) 5'-11 2" (09531-000) 6'-3" (09532-000) CENTER OF FOOTING / POST TO TIP OF GOAL 2 x 4 LUMBER (7' MINIMUM LENGTH) 1" THICK SPACER BLOCK SLOPED PLAYING SURFACE C. Dig the hole for the concrete footing as detailed in Step No. 1 and Detail “B”. Place the cardboard tube or formwork as required around the top of the hole. Place one end of the 2 x 4 on top of the 1" thick spacer block, the other end on the cardboard tube or formwork. Place the level on top of the 2 x 4. Raise or lower the tube/formwork as required until the 2 x 4 is level. Secure the tube/formwork at this height. This will ensure that the top of the concrete footing will be 1" above the playing surface at the tip of the goal. Also, check to ensure that the four anchor bolts will extend a minimum of 3-1/2" above the concrete per Detail “B”. D. Pour the concrete footing as detailed in Steps No. 3 thru 5 and Detail “B”. 2005 PORTER ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT COMPANY. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. INST 00284 095 9-1-2005 1. Carefully select location for concrete footing and dig a hole 20" in diameter to a minimum depth of 48". Top of footing MUST be located 1" above point on playing surface that was located in Step A on page 1. Use cardboard tube or wood forms to help form top of footing that is above grade. CAUTION – Contact your local utility companies to locate buried electrical, gas and water lines before digging hole for footing. Also, check for overhead utilities. NOTE – Footing size may have to be increased depending on soil conditions. See Detail "B" on page 3. 2. Assemble the four anchor bolts (1), four 3/4" flatwashers (2) and eight 3/4" hex nuts (4) to the installation template (6) with the top of the anchor bolts (1) extending EXACTLY 2-1/2" FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE TEMPLATE PER DETAIL "B". Save the four 3/4" lockwashers (3) and four 3/4" thread protectors (5) for later installation. See Detail "B" on page 3. 3. NOTE - Footing as shown in Detail “B” will require approximately 15 80-pound bags, or .33 cubic yards of concrete mix. Mix concrete per manufacturer's instructions on the bag, making sure that the mixture is thoroughly wet. Fill the hole to within 12" of the top and use a stick or pole to compact the concrete to remove any air pockets. IMPORTANT – Do not allow any portion of footing to dry or harden before installation is complete as this would affect the strength of the footing. Proceed immediately to Steps No. 4 and 5. 4. Install the anchor bolt/template assembly from Step No. 2 in the center of the concrete footing, checking to ensure that the top of the threaded anchor bolts (1) are 4-1/2" above the playing surface at the tip of the goal, and that the anchor bolts are in alignment with the edge of the playing surface as shown in Detail “B” on page 3. 5. Mix additional concrete and carefully fill footing until top of footing is 1" above playing surface at the tip of the goal. Compact the concrete as it is poured with a stick or pole to ensure that there are no air pockets. When done, there should be a 1" space between the top of the footing and the bottom of the template (5). Slope top of footing slightly to provide proper drainage. See Detail "B" on page 3. 6. Allow concrete to set a MINIMUM of 24 hours before proceeding with assembly of remainder of backstop. Proceed with assembly of backstop per the instructions supplied with the complete backstop kit. If necessary, you may contact the factory to obtain a complete set of installation instructions for the basketball pole that you plan to purchase. 2 71 2" HOLD IMPORTANT - LOCATE ANCHOR BOLTS PARALLEL TO EDGE OF PLAYING SURFACE AS SHOWN Detail "B" PLAN VIEW SLOPE TOP OF FOOTING SLIGHTLY FOR PROPER DRAINAGE PLAYING SURFACE 1 48" MINIMUM 3/4" DIA. x 24" Lg.
