Nine-Hole Match Around - Vanderbilt Country Club

MEN’S INVITATIONAL SPECIFICS
FORMAT
“Nine-Hole Match Around” will be played each day. 80% of handicap is used with
36 being the maximum handicap(prior to reduction) for all three days of
competition. All play is from the the White tees or Gold Tees. However, handicaps
will be determined from which tees you play and then, anyone playing from the
gold tees, will have their handicap reduced by 1.5 strokes for all nine hole matches.
Since there will be six teams in every flight, each two man team will play 5 nine
hole matches of Fourball(Better Ball of Partners) versus all other teams within the
same flight. Strokes will be determined by playing off the low handicap player in
each foursome.
Points are awarded to teams as follows:
• one tenth(.1) of a point awarded to the winner of each hole.
• Minus one tenth(-.1) given to the loser of each hole.
• Zero(0) points to each team if the hole is tied.
• One(1.0) awarded to the team winning the match.
• Minus one(-1.0) to the team losing the match.
• Zero points(0) to each team if the match is tied.
• Example: In the first match, Team A beats Team B by two holes, Team A would
be +1.2 and Team B would be -1.2 after the first match. If Team A then played
Team C in the second match and lost by one hole, they would be -1.1 for that
match and +.1 for the tournament. It may sound convoluted but it is not. It puts
a huge emphasis on winning the match.
• The Flight winner will be the team with the most points after all 5 Nine Hole
matches.
The Overall Champion will be determined by a shootout. Presuming we have ten
flight winners, 5 teams will go off Hole #2 and finish on #5. 5 other teams will go
off Hole #5 and finish on #8.
• The format will be modified Chapman. Each player will tee off, the team will
select the best drive, and then alternate shots until the ball is holed.
• Teams will be handicapped during the Shootout at 60% of the A player’s
handicap plus 40% of the B player. From there, the team will get shots as they
fall on the card.
• Teams with the highest net score on each hole will be eliminated until one team
survives after Hole #5 and one team after Hole #8. If there is a tie for highest
net score on a hole, a chip off of the teams tied will determine which team
moves on.
• The two remaining teams will then play #9 to determine an overall winner. If
there is a tie on Hole #9, the hole will be replayed, time permitting. If no time
permitting or there is still a tie after the hole is replayed, a chip off will
determine the Overall Winning team.
ENTRY FEE
Entry Fee for the event is $600 plus tax. It will be billed on January 20, 2016. If a
team must cancel, the next team on the waiting list will be asked to take its place.
If a replacement is found, the original team will be credited the Entry Fee and the

tournament.
