PRO CORNER
WITH LEO
Facilitating a Tennis Canada instructor Certification Course is one of
my favourite times of the year. Forming new coaches and inspiring
them to teach solid fundamentals to adults and juniors will translate
into creating a bigger base of future players and the chance to grow
the game.
One of the major components of the course is to have coaches be
able to scan a player’s technique. there is a simple process named
“5 fundamentals” that coaches learn.
When viewing a player, we first access his/her tactical intention, without it, we should not correct technique. Once we evaluate what the
player tactical intention is, we can access how the player’s technique
matches that intention. We do this by looking at the technique in this
order; Grip, Set up, Impact Point, Hitting Zone, and Recovery.
These five components have sub components.
For instant, there are many different types of
grips; continental, eastern, semi-western, and
western. Impact point has 3 dimensions (height,
depth and width). Hitting zone is the length of
time the racket angle stays moving towards the
target. Last par of the process is simple recovery
or getting back “home” before the opponent hits
the ball.
The process is simple but it takes a lot of practice to understand what to look for and provide
the correct information to fix the problem or improve a skill. The more solid the foundation and
fundamentals are at the early stage the better
chances a player has to achieve a higher level.
Next time you miss the ball, ask yourself the
question of which one of the five fundaments
might have been the cause of the error based on
your tactical intention.
All of our coaches are fully Tennis Canada Certified. Consult one of our tennis professionals about your game.
Your game might need a tune up before the start of the fall season, a
correction on a technique that might be causing your body pain or
aggravating an injury or you simply need to get back into the rhythm
and want to have a consistent hitting lesson.

WILSON
REVOLVE NOW
AVAILABLE
AT LITC
What Is It?
Revolve is Wilson’s newest co-polyester tennis string, announced in late 2015. According to Wilson, it features a unique
molecular structure and a proprietary additive designed to increase the string’s ability to deflect and snap back. ‘Snap
back’ is one of the key components in creating spin. Revolve
offers a higher level of comfort compared to many other traditional polyester strings.
Who should use it?
Revolve is ideal for intermediate and advanced players with
long, fast strokes. The huge spin potential and polyester properties provide excellent control and predictability on the most
powerful swings. Revolve, available at LITC in 15 and 16
gauge, is very durable, making it a good option for frequent
string breakers. The 15 gauge is extremely thick and is best
suited for open-pattern racquets (fewer main and cross strings
than traditional racquets), while the 16
gauge is a good choice for players looking
for more power and feel.
Who shouldn’t use it?
Players with short and slow strokes would
not get the benefits provided by Revolve
and other co-poly strings; softer synthetic
gut strings are a better choice. Players with
shoulder or elbow injuries should avoid polyester-based string due to its stiffness.
What are people saying about Revolve?
“I use Revolve 16 gauge mainly because it
doesn’t break fast, and it just feels good.” Payton Nicol (LITC instructor and U16 Canada Nationals)
“I really enjoy the Wilson Revolve 15 string.
It feels similar to Luxilon Savage. It has good power and spin,
and is very durable.” - Conrad Koch (LITC Club Pro 1 and U18
Canada Nationals)
