General Program Information
Canada Winter Games, February 13 – March 1, 2015, Prince George, British Columbia
 Ringette Alberta’s Canada Winter Games program is designed to enhance the development of
Athletes, Coaches, Officials and Administrators and provides them with equal opportunity to
discover the great qualities of competitive Ringette in well-organized and fair Regional
Camps, Provincial Cup Competitions, and team selection processes.
 Kevin Harrison is the successful candidate who has been declared the Head Coach for the
2015 games.
 Ringette Alberta is currently looking for two (2) individuals to fill the positions of Assistant
Coach for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Assistant Coach Qualifications









Experience with coaching athletes at a high level
Proven ability to work in a team setting, providing leadership and direction
Consistent and fair in coaching practices
Facilitator of athletes rather than a dictator /director
Knowledge of player selection/ evaluation
Knowledge and experience executing team building exercises
Ability to conduct and plan on-ice sessions at the provincial level
Ability to coach and prepare a team for a short term competition
NCCP Level 3 or Competition Development Trained & Making Ethical Decisions Certified.
Coaches must be qualified no later than 90 days before the opening of the games (11/13/2014)
Assistant Coach General Duties









Player evaluation and participation in selection process
Assist the Head Coach in developing a competitive plan for the team
Provide input into practice plans
Coaches the team during games and practices
Provides input into team rules and provides supervision/discipline of the players in
conjunction with the Head Coach
Provide input into training program for the athletes
Assists with monitoring the progress of athlete training
Assists Head Coach as requested in communication with club coaches/team staff to ensure to
avoid negative effects of CWG team
Provide input into written evaluations of players as required

 Ringette resume, including previous coaching experience and playing
experience (if applicable)
 Three (3) letters of support, which must be submitted directly to Ringette
Alberta by the author: one from your local association; one from a coach
you have coached with previously and one from an athlete you have
previously coached.
Please provide answers to the following questions:
1. Please outline the selection process and tools you would use to evaluate athletes
vying for a spot on Team Alberta.
2. What do you think are the essential components of a successful team within a short
term competition such as the Canada Winter Games tournament?
3. What individual player skills and tactics do you think are required to achieve success
at the Canada Winter Games? How will you develop/foster these skills?
4. What team skills and strategies do you think are required to achieve success at the
Canada Winter Games? How will you implement these skills and strategies?
5. The athletes on Team Alberta will all most likely also compete with a club team
within Alberta. The ability to liaise with these club programs is essential to the CWG
experience. How will you manage the requirements of both programs for your
athletes?
6. Do you have any additional coaching experience/training that would be beneficial to
you as an Assistant Coach of Team Alberta?
