ONGOING BOOK SALE Open during regular library hours, the Friends ongoing Book Sale is located on the first floor across from the elevator. Great used books, music, and movies are available with prices starting at 25¢. FONDULAC DISTRICT LIBRARY TO LEND BOARD GAMES Fondulac District Library is proud to announce that board games will soon be available for checkout. Located on the second floor, the selection of board games includes numerous popular and unique titles, such as: • • • • • • • • • • Forbidden Island Ticket to Ride Settlers of Catan Innsmouth Escape Abyss Dead Panic Chez Dork Flux Munchkin Star Realms Add fun to your party, or start a new game night tradition. Board games are a winning addition to a special event or even a great way to spend a rainy day! Board games will be checked out at the second floor Information Desk. SUGGESTED READING FOR KIDS BY KIDS If your child is looking for something new to read, stop by the Youth Services Department and pick up a suggested reading list. Books on these lists are comprised of recommendations from Fondulac District Library patrons in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Discover what books other kids are enjoying and check out a title that has gotten two thumbs up! Children who want to contribute to a suggested reading list are invited to fill out a slip with their name, age, and the title and author of the book they enjoyed, and place it in the suggestion box located in the Youth Services Department. StaR wars day Saturday, April 8 • 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Star Wars Day celebrates one of the most popular sagas of all time. Free activities and programs for all ages will run throughout the day and include a new, expanded Jedi training, a sketch workshop with artist Kiley Beecher, crafts, games, Star Wars Bingo, prize drawings, and much more. Costumed characters will be in attendance and available for photographs. Additionally, members of the East Peoria Robo Raiders, a local First Tech Challenge (FTC) team, will participate in a presentation and demonstration of the real-life “droids” they design, build, and take to competition. The library also offers Star Wars-related books and movies on display and available for check out. Additional details will be released on fondulaclibrary.org as the event nears. DROP IN CHORALE CONCERT Thursday, April 27 •2 p.m. The East Peoria High School Chorale, and their girls a cappella group, will provide an afternoon of music at Fondulac District Library. DROP IN EAST PEORIA WOMAN’S CLUB ART SHOW April 24 - May 4 Enjoy an eclectic display of art during the East Peoria Woman’s Club Art Show. The East Peoria Woman’s Club supports the artistic endeavors of students by sponsoring and giving them recognition at this annual show. The exhibit showcases the art of East Peoria Central Jr. High and East Peoria Community High School students, and is judged by local artists. Winners are awarded ribbons. The artwork is available for viewing anytime during the library’s operating hours. URBAN GARDENING Saturday, April 29 • 1 p.m. Think you can’t grow your own food in the city? Think again! Visit the library for a presentation on urban gardening and all it has to offer you. This presentation includes information on small space gardening techniques for anyone, anywhere. Cheap seed starting options will also be demonstrated. The presentation is geared toward teens and adults, but kids are welcome to attend with an adult and participate! DROP IN MAKER DAY Saturday, June 10 • 1-4 p.m. Maker Day is a fun, interactive way to celebrate creativity and imagination within your community and beyond. It’s inspiration for all ages and anyone who loves DIY. Crafters, artists, engineers, hobbyists, scientists, and others are invited to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for their craft. Finished designs will be 3D printed from plastic filament using the library’s 3D printer and will be available for pick up on a later date. Previous experience with 3D printing not required. Advanced computer skills necessary. Bring your own device or use a laptop provided by the library. REGISTER BAD ART NIGHT Thursday, June 8 • 6 p.m. The library is teaming up with The Hive Studio for a night of creative fun! This program is for people who want to unwind and create something truly hideous. Participants can enter to win prizes, and the creator of the most hideous piece of art will win a tacky trophy! REGISTER COUNTED CROSS STITCH 101 Wednesday, June 14 • 6 p.m. Counted Cross Stitch 101 is a class for those who have never done cross stitch before but would like to learn. This workshop covers the basics, including preparing the cloth to prevent frayed edges and placing your first stitches. Beginner level sewing kits will be provided. Craft bubble wands out of different items, experiment with creating different sizes of bubbles, and even see if you can make a square bubble! DROP IN KIDS WANTED: YOUR BROKEN AND UNWANTED CRAYONS Throughout the summer, the Youth Services Department is collecting unwanted crayons for The Crayon Initiative. The Crayon Initiative recycles old crayons into new ones that are donated to schools, hospitals, art programs, and other organizations that serve children. ANYTIME ACTIVITIES Even when there’s not a program scheduled, there’s always something fun to do at the library! Stop by the desk in the Youth Services Department to learn more about the library’s current Anytime Activity, a craft, game, or project kids can do whenever they visit the library. 1KB4K: 1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN 1KB4K is a library initiative that promotes reading 1,000 books to preschoolers before they begin Kindergarten. It’s easy to do, and the child gets a free book, funded by the Friends of Fondulac District Library, every time they read and report 100 books.
