It was a day of contrasts
for the crew of Fleetwood
lifeboat when the fun of
their annual fundraising
event turned into drama
with two separate call outs.
The event, which raised
£1,200 for the Fleetwood
lifeboat service, brought
hundreds of local people
to the seafront to find out
more about the work of the
lifeboat and to pledge their
support.
However the day
didn’t pass by without the
crew showing their real
work in rescuing a stricken
catamaran and a family who
had hit a sand bank in a power boat.

from someone on board a
catamaran which he was
sailing single handedly.
“There was a problem
with the roller reefing which
is used for the sails and he
was unable to operate it on
his own.
“Then later in the day a
family in a power boat became stuck on a sandbank.
“They were rescued later allowing for the tide to refloat the vessel.
“Everyone was brought
back to shore safely.”
The event was smaller

because plans are well underway for a huge Lifeboat
Day to celebrate the arrival
of the new £2.2m Shannon
class boat.
“The date is already set
for next year,” said Steve.
“It will be held on Juny
23rd 2016 and it will be a
huge event.”
