Disney Excellence Award
Organizers
The Disney Excellence Award is organized by The Walt Disney Company Argentina, with
legal address at Antonio Malaver, 550, Partido de Vicente López (1638), Provincia de
Buenos Aires, Argentina (herein below, the “Organizer”); in collaboration with Asociación
Civil Chicos.Net, with legal address at Sucre 2775, Ciudad de Buenos Aires (1428),
Argentina.
Participation Mechanics
The Disney Excellence Award is limited to all applications ("Apps”) developed and
presented at the “Connected Communities, Connected Lives” Hackathon (the
“Hackathon”) organized by The Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD
(“BIAC”).
The Disney Excellence Award winning app will have:
1) Stood out in one or more of the Hackathon 4 main categories:




Cultural Heritage
Smart Cities
Social Inclusion
Entrepreneurship
2) Contributed to children/youth well-being in at least one of its 5 dimensions:





Education and Quality of School Life;
Housing & Environmental Conditions;
Health;
Economic Well-being
Risk Behaviors.
Disney Excellence Award Jury and Selection Criteria
The Disney Excellence Award Jury (“Jury”), shall be composed by education and
technology specialists, experts in the field of children's rights and social development and
executives of The Walt Disney Company. The role of the jury will be to offer guidance and
assistance strictly relevant to the development of their apps and linked to their area of
expertise; carefully evaluate the projects presented and select, at its sole discretion, one
winning application (apps).

Members of the jury will be presented at the outset of the event as technical, content and
pitch mentors respectively. This will allow participants in need of assistance the
opportunity to easily identify them as needed.
In selecting the winning app, the Jury will evaluate all Apps developed and presented by
entrants during the BIAC Hackathon using the following criteria:





Ability to express what the app is about (15%)
Originality of the idea (15%)
Apps degree of completion at code freeze time (15%)
User's experience (intuitive and justifies the use of the app or service) (15%)
Relevance: Potential to improve children well-being in at least one of its 5
dimensions (Education and Quality of School Life; Housing Conditions and
Environmental Health; Health Care; Economic Wellbeing; and Risky Behavior and
Bad Habits) (20%)
 Reach: Potential to reach to a large number of beneficiaries (20%)
Entrants acknowledge that both the Jury and organizers reserve the right to modify the
number of winning apps & teams, at their sole discretion.
All winning entrants must be present at the respective winner announcements of their
prize will be forfeited or awarded to another entrant, at the discretion of the sponsor.
Prizes:
The Disney Excellence Award shall consist of a cash award for the winning team/app as
well as specialized training opportunities and one Robotics Kit for each member of the
winning team (up to 5 people).
 Cash Award: USD 2,000 (Two Thousand American Dollars) for the winning team to
be used for the further development of their App.
 Specialized training opportunities:
o Acámica Membership (6-months) to take on line courses of their choice and
access multidisciplinary content and communities. (1 per participant)
o EDX.org Certified On Line Course (Certification up to USD 100.-) organized
by world-renowned universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, University of California Berkeley and Boston University (1 per
participant)
 Robotics kit (1 per participant).

How to claim the prize:
Cash Award: USD 2,000 (Two Thousand American Dollars) per application. Award
must be split evenly among all registered team members. The organizers are not
responsible for any disputes among team members, or between the Entrant and
any third parties concerning prize, prize components or the associated income
taxes. Any applicable income taxes on the prize are the sole responsibility of the
entrant. There shall be no substitutions or transfers of a prize, except at the
Organizers’ discretion. Any prizes not claimed within 1 month after the Contest
end date will be forfeited. For the purpose of the Contest, BIAC is responsible to
fund the Grand Prize Category, Prize Winners and Disney Excellence Award.
 Acámica membership: Each member of the winning team will receive from a
voucher with a membership code valid for 6 months at the end of the event.
 EDX.org Certified On Line Course: Each member of the winning team is invited to
log into the platform (https://www.edx.org/), search for a course of his/her liking
and sign into it in accordance with registration dates defined by Edx. Each member
of the winning team shall inform the Organizers ([email protected]) of
their choice to allow for the handling of certifications. Upon course completion,
Edx will issue an official certificate to the attention of the participant, signed by the
instructor and with the endorsement of the organizing University.
 Robotics kit: Each member of the winning team will receive a Robotics Kit from the
organizers at the end of the Event.
By participating in this Contest and/or by accepting any prize, participants understand that
the prize may be declared void and, therefore, not be awarded, in case the Organizer
and/or the Jury, at their sole discretion, come to the conclusion that none of the Apps
developed and presented at the Hackathon meets criteria set for the Disney Excellence
Award. In that case, the Disney Excellence Award will remain property of the Organizer.
Participants acknowledge that the Organizer's liability with respect to each award ends
when the award has been delivered to the winner. Upon acceptance of a prize, the winner
exempts the Organizer from any present or future liability, including yet not limited to its
subsidiary or affiliate companies, officers, directors, employees, advisors and agents from
any lawsuit or legal action of any nature which may result from his/her participation in
the Contest or from the acceptance or use of the prize.
The awards ceremony and closing event shall be held simultaneously on June 21, 2016.
