October Non-Fiction Reading Project BOARD GAME

October Non-Fiction Reading Project
BOARD GAME - Due Wednesday, October 28th
Project Overview: Design and create a board game about the nonfiction book that you read.
Directions for Project: Find at least 12 facts about the topic of your
non-fiction text and use these to come up with question cards to use for
your board game. No summary is required for this project and you can
have more questions if you want to, but you need at least 12.
Writing Your Question Cards


Consider making multiple choice or true/false questions to give players
a better chance if they don’t know a lot about the topic yet.
How will the players know they got the question right? (Does the card
have the question and answer and another player reads the card?)
Designing Your Game Board and Pieces








Your board can be any size and any kind of materials can be used.
You can model your game after another game if you want, but put your
own spin on it using the theme of your non-fiction text.
Each player will probably need their own game piece (or pieces) so find
enough objects to use for all players.
You don’t need to buy materials for this project! Try to reuse things
from around the house. File folders can make great game boards and
your teacher has plenty.
Think of a name for your game and write it somewhere noticeable on
your game board.
Create instructions and rules that tell how to play your game.
Don’t forget to tell how many players, how you move around the board,
how you get questions, if there are rewards or penalties for answering
questions correctly or incorrectly, and how to win the game!
Decorate your board, question cards, and any other pieces you use to
make the game more appealing.



The title and author of the informational book your board game is
based on should be written on the game board, as well as your name.
Make sure all of your question cards, board game pieces, and your
instructions are contained in a plastic bag (and label the bag with your
name and the name of your game).
Write a brief book recommendation on an index card to go with your
project. Label it as “Book Recommendation” and include your opinion of
the book and tell whether or not you would recommend this book; be
sure to include why or why not.
