JOB PROFILE Position # 00106809 TITLE: USER EXPERIENCE WEB CONTENT STRATEGIST CLASSIFICATION: AO21, TEMP 24 JOB OVERVIEW Provides leadership and strategic thinking to enhance service delivery on the web through the creation, delivery and governance of engaging content. The UX Web Content Strategist offers guidance and support to the sector’s web publishing team, ministry representatives and project managers to ensure high quality user experiences. ACCOUNTABILITIES Authoritative voice on content strategy and UX best practices for the sector at the NRS Web Council and other cross government web strategy working groups. Within the sector, ensures the adoption of government web content policy, standards and guidelines and champions UX content strategies and best practices when overseeing content development practices. Plans, conducts research and analyzes complex workflows and processes in order to translate user needs into requirements. Prepares and presents content models and content recommendations based on user research and business goals. Leads small to medium sized content strategy projects to completion for the sector. Leads post review of web content to ensure needs of citizens have been met. Working closely with the Information Architect, supports information architecture and web navigation, including metadata schemas and taxonomies, to support sector web properties. Continuously evaluates content strategy approaches and provides expert advice and decision support to management to ensure alignment with overarching sector transformation business objectives, program area business objectives and user needs. Develops and manages the sector’s content strategy through leading and facilitating engagement and information-gathering interviews and leveraging external research and trends. Supports development of standards, guidelines, and training kits to enable adherence to accessibility, content writing and UX best practices. Trains sector business areas and web publishers in writing and optimizing content for the internet. Ensures that content is of high quality, well written and concise. Supervises staff including assignment of work, development and evaluation of performance plans and approval of leave. (Temp 24 duty) Works collaboratively across government to optimize the integration of cross-sector content into corporate web sites and ensure business areas adhere to UX and Gov.2 standards. Builds quarterly reports for Sector Executive and Corporate GCPE to inform Executive decision making. Leads and chairs various meetings. Recommends options and approaches to achieve communication of service delivery objectives on the web to increase awareness of existing, new and emerging programs, policies and services for appropriate audiences. Reviews contract deliverables to ensure work is complete and standards are met. Monitors and evaluates resources, processes and progress of content strategy projects. Identifies risks and obstacles and takes or recommends actions. Initiates, develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with internal and external clients and agencies to achieve sector Internet Strategy objectives. JOB REQUIREMENTS Degree or diploma in English, Library Science, User Experience Design, Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of related experience, education or training. One year experience practicing user experience design, planning and managing web properties including experience in information architecture, content development and interaction design. Experience with project management methodology and processes. Preference may be given to applicants with experience in leading teams. Preference may be given to applicants with experience with the British Columbia Government’s Internet Strategy, its current best practices and standards and governance, and of the corporate content management system. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to provide strong leadership, communications, relationship building, research and planning skills. An understanding of current trends in online service delivery and a focus on improving services for citizens and stakeholders. Clear written and verbal communication skills including written skills for web content. Familiarity of the British Columbia Government’s Internet Strategy, its current best practices and standards and governance, and of the corporate content management system.
