The lineups
come in with
1:45 left until
the start of
the set.
Let’s look at East’s lineup first…
LINEUP ERRORS
• If two players are listed in the same position and the
error is noticed before lineups are due, R2 should
return the lineup and have the coach fix it.
• If the error is noticed after lineups are due, the coach
may either substitute the regular player (phantom
sub) or designate a different libero (no penalty).
• If a player is listed who is not on the roster, a
point/loss-of-rally is assessed to the team for
correction of the roster, and then the player is
allowed to enter.

TRACKING THE LIBERO
When the Libero leaves, the player whose # is slashed before the L
must replace the Libero. Bearcats’ #12 replaces the Libero. Write 12 next to L.
The Libero must sit out one rally before re-entering the set unless they are to serve.
The Libero Tracker should check that the Libero DOES NOT play the front row or serve in the
wrong position.

LIBERO TRACKING TIPS
• Look for the “libero sandwich” on paper
16 L 16
NOT
16 L 7
• Use slashes only for substitutions
• Keep track of whether the libero is on or off
the floor at time-outs. Convey this to the
officials with hand signals.
• Keep paying attention! There’s no warning
when the libero will enter and exit.
CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
• We are all a team: R1, R2, line judges,
scorer, Libero tracker, and timer.
• Understanding scoring will make you a
more knowledgeable official and will help
the match run smoothly!
• No one person can do it all. Enjoy the
match and do your best!
See you on the court!
