PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY AT A GLANCE
PSU’s 49-acre campus is located in the heart of Portland, one of the
most vibrant and livable cities in the United States. PSU’s central
location provides students with remarkable community access for
classroom projects, senior capstone courses, field-based experiences
and internships.
In 2015, PSU granted over 6,000 degrees. Twenty-eight percent of the
bachelor’s degrees went to students of underrepresented minority
groups reflecting the state’s growing diversity. Two-thirds of students
enrolled at PSU are from the metropolitan region. The vast majority of
graduates live and work in the Greater Portland region.
LET KNOWLEDGE SERVE THE CITY
With over 500 active business and community partnerships, PSU is
deeply engaged in all aspects of Portland business and civic life. PSU
offers students hands-on, real-world experience to prepare them for
the workforce.
Key partnerships with public, private and non-profit partners -including Intel, PGE, City of Portland, Multnomah County, and the
Technology Association of Oregon -- provide students and faculty with
outstanding opportunities to contribute to the economic, physical,
cultural and social fabric of the Portland metro region.

UNIVERSITY - INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS
Students gain access to 540 of the region’s largest and most
innovative employers and community partners in key industry
areas:
SEMICONDUCTORS
Intel, the world’s largest and most valued semiconductor
manufacturer, employs 17,000 in Hillsboro, OR and is the
state’s largest employer. PSU has a significant partnership
with Intel that revolves around 3 pillars: building the STEM
K-12 pipeline; producing work ready graduates; and faculty
research. Over 1,100 PSU graduates are employed by Intel –
more than any other Oregon university. In 2013-2014, PSU’s
engineering school placed 108 interns at Intel.
SOFTWARE
To meet Portland’s steep demand for software engineers,
PSU created the PSU/PDX Cooperative Education Program
(PCEP) in 2012. The program places high achieving
computer science students in two-year, paid internships at
downtown technology companies, including many of the
region’s fastest growing software firms. Students balance
20-hour workweeks with eight to 12 credits of coursework.
ENERGY
Portland General Electric is Oregon’s largest utility serving
over 840,000 customers in 52 Oregon cities. Through
financial support for the PSU Power Engineering Lab, PGE
creates hands-on, project experiences for undergraduate
and graduate power engineering students. Since 2012, 18
funded projects totaling over $500,000 have supported
22 students. In the 2015-2016 academic year, PGE and
PSU established a year-round internship program for
engineering and business students.
