EDITORIAL
This is the time of year when everyone seems to be very busy at home getting ready for Christmas
even though that is still six weeks off. Scouting will still be going until we all have a break over the festive
season. Exact details appear under the individual Sections.
There will be a paper collection on the last Saturday of November but not at the end of December.
Notices will be delivered to all houses in our collection area to tell them of the arrangements and I will be
asking parents to deliver these notices.
Rather early I would wish all connected with the Group a “Happy Christmas” and a “Good New
Year” and “Thank You” to all who have helped the Group over the last twelve months.
BEAVER NEWS by KEITH CHADBOURNE
Since the last report the theme has been Nature with the Beavers collecting leaves which they
brought back to the Headquarters where we attempted to identify from which trees they had come. They
also planted bulbs in pots to bring some colour during the dark days of winter.
Whilst this year we did not have any fireworks the Beavers did make chocolate apples which
although a bit messy were enjoyed subsequently.
Last week was also messy as they made colourful rockets.
We have tried to give a bit of variety with the games that are played each week to bring some new
games to them otherwise they would play “Dodge Ball” or football all the time. Next year there will be a
District Games Evening when every Colony will run that Colony’s favourite game.
Thank you to Sue Mulhern who accompanied four of our Beavers on the organised trip to Eureka
on the 26th October. From what the Beavers said at the following meeting when I asked them about the
trip they had a most enjoyable day out. Thank you to Quest for the invitation to join them.
Welcome to James Dylak, Noah Pilkington, Daniel Shryane, Robert Morgan, and Johnny
Lavin, We still have a full Colony with a very short waiting list with two Beavers due to go to Cubs by
the year’s end.
There will be no meetings on Dec 22nd or 29th but we will meet as usual on Jan 5th.

CUB SCOUT NEWS by Alan Roberts
After the summer break we lost a few lads to Scouts and gained three Beavers, Connell HopkinsTonge, Matthew O’Dowd and Patrick Owston, welcome to them.
Eoin Watts has been made up to Sixer and Patrick Devereux to Seconder.
I have managed to get some assistance from four parents to enable the Pack to keep functioning
and for three weeks the Cubs made a bird feeder and flower stand learning about tools and have gained the
DIY Badge. This is through the efforts of Barbara Grimshaw.
In the near future we hope to work towards the Emergency Aid Badge.
I must thank Adam Radford, Kieran Sheedy, Ged Devereux and Bernadette O’Dowd and Michael
Butt from Explorer Scouts for assisting me at Pack meetings, also Barbara Grimshaw.
I will soon b e looking for more help in the New Year. Any parent who is willing to assist please
speak to me on a Monday night to go on a rota. If there is any person who would be willing to become a
Leader please speak to me.

SCOUT NEWS
At the present time the Scout Section is working under difficulties of only one Leader, one Helper
and a number of Explorer Scouts. Whilst the Explorer Scouts have the advantage of being young, keen
and full of enthusiasm it does mean that at present there has been a lack of progress in the badgework.
This hopefully will be addressed with the help of Pete Marsh. One badge that he definitely has on the
agenda is D.I.Y In the mean time there has been a full programme of activities with foreign cooking,
always popular until it comes to the washing up at the end and cleaning up. The last Thursday in October
was a Wide Game. There was a roaring fire and fireworks for the start of November, possibly something
to do with a person called Guy Fawkes. Last Thursday was games and Peter making a start on badgework.
On Sunday 14th Nov was Remembrance Sunday with a cold but at least fine day. Thank you to
Mark Prescott, Paul Ockerby, Thomas Byrne, Daniel Snow and Levine Pere for turning up. Where was the
rest of the Troop ? There are 24 Scouts on the books.
