INTRODUCTION
Riverside Mechanical Ltd will do everything reasonably practicable to provide you with a safe
place of work. However, we cannot do this without your help. You have the following legal duties
under the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, the Safety Health and Welfare at Work
(General Application) Regulations 2007 and the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction)
Regulations 2013.
1. Take responsibility of your own health and safety
2. Ensure your actions do not jeopardise the safety of others
3. Co-operate with your employers on Health and Safety issues
4. Not to interfere or misuse anything provided for Health & Safety
5. To report all unsafe conditions to your employer
6. Your employer also has a legal duty to provide you with a safe working environment, safe
plant and equipment, adequate personal protection equipment and most importantly a safe
system of work.
WELFARE
The site canteen and toilet / washing facilities are located within the site compound. Welfare
facilities will be cleaned on a daily basis. Riverside Mechanical will endeavour to provide welfare
facilities of the highest standards. Please respect the facilities that are provided for you. Any
person caught urinating in any place other than the toilets provided will be permanently excluded
from site.
FIRST AID
You must report all accidents to your Supervisor and the Site Manager. All Site Supervisors have a
First Aid Box. The nearest hospital to site is ___________________________. You must inform
Riverside Mechanical if you have any medical condition, which may affect your safety or the safety
of others.
HOUSEKEEPING
Housekeeping is an essential requirement for Site Safety. You must keep your work areas clean
and free from trip hazards etc.

Should an incident occur which requires the evacuation of the site, you will be asked to leave the
site immediately and report to the agreed assembly point. Should you discover a fire, raise the
alarm immediately and report to the assembly point.
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (P.P.E.)
The wearing of head protection, high visibility jackets/vests and safety footwear is mandatory on
site. Any person who has to be constantly reminded of this will be permanently excluded from the
site. Any person who comes to site without required PPE will not be allowed to start work. Eye
protection, ear defenders and respiratory protection must also be worn when required and are
available from Riverside Mechanical on request.
EDGE PROTECTION
No person should work from open joists or adjacent to unprotected edges. Should you see an
unprotected edge or stairwell etc. report it immediately to the Site Manager.
SMOKING / EATING
Smoking is not allowed on site. If you wish to smoke you may do so in the open only. Eating is
only allowed in the designated welfare area located in the canteen
MANUAL HANDLING
Do not try to lift any object, which is awkward or excessively heavy. Riverside Mechanical Ltd
tries to eliminate or reduce the amount of manual handling you have to do. Use mechanical aids
provided or obtain help. All Riverside Mechanical employees must have a Manual Handling
Course completed with up to date certification before commencement on site.
TOOLBOX TALKS
You will be required to attend brief safety talks during your time on site. Sub-Contractors will be
expected to carry out toolbox talks as requested and submit a record of same to the Contracts
Manager. Toolbox talks must be carried out and understood in the language of each operative.
TRAINING CERTIFICATES
No operatives are permitted on site without FAS Safe Pass Training Certification. Copies of these
will be held on site. You must not operate any hazardous plant or equipment unless you have been
trained to do so. All CSCS Certificates to be copied to the Contracts Manager for record purposed.
HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
A list of all Hazardous Substances which will be used on site must be provided to Site Management
along with a Material Safety Data Sheet. Always read and follow the instructions.
PERMITS TO WORK
You must obtain a Permit to Work for specified activities (e.g. Hot Work etc). Any unauthorised
person found in a restricted area will be removed from site. You must have a fire extinguisher and
fire blanket to hand when carrying out hot work including cutting and brazing and torching.
ALCOHOL AND DRUGS
Any person who is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be excluded from
site.

PERSONAL ITEMS
No radios or personal stereos are allowed on site. No person is permitted to work on Riverside
Mechanical sites without their shirt or whilst wearing shorts.
SECURITY / THEFT
Any person caught stealing from site or causing deliberate damage will be prosecuted. Riverside
Mechanical Ltd may carry out random searches should we deem necessary.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Points are situated ____________________________. Any person found misusing these will
be excluded from the site. Do not use the extinguishers unless it is safe to do so and you have been
instructed in their use during Induction Training.
SCAFFOLDING / LADDERS / STEP LADDERS
You must not tamper with or remove any part of a scaffold. All ladders used for access must extend
at least five rungs above the working platform and be secured at both stiles. Report any untied or
damaged ladders immediately. If you must work from ladders or step ladders it should be for short
term / light work only. If you cannot hold onto the ladder with one hand during the work, you
require a different form of access. When working above 3 metres from a ladder it must be secured
via both stiles or footed at all times. No work is allowed from step ladders if it requires standing 3
rungs or less from the top of the steps, and the step ladders should only be used for temporary
works not exceeding 30 minute duration.
ELECTRICITY
All tools etc. must be fed via 110V or less. All tools and equipment must be in good condition and
trailing leads protected.
SITE SPECIFIC RULES / HAZARDS
1. All hazardous activities must have a risk assessment and method statements prepared prior
to commencement.
2. Operatives must sign a Riverside Mechanical Ltd document for high-risk jobs to confirm
their understanding of the risks involved in their activities and the control measures will be
implemented
3. Any non English speaking operatives must be working under the supervision of a person
who is able to read and understand safety and emergency procedures.
DECLARATION
I have read / received the Induction Training outlined above and I fully understand its requirements
and agree to abide by them. I am aware I can be excluded from Site for serious misconduct or
persistent breaches of the Site Rules and Procedures.
