AMICI Work Package 3
Cooperation (with Industry)
to utilize (available) technological infrastructures
Riko Wichmann
AMICI Partner and Industry Days for Scientific Technology Infrastructure
Padova, 18. / 19. April 2017
Scope of the Cooperation WP
> Propose a coordination and cooperation model for Technological
Infrastructures (TI) between research organizations and partners in
industry
 Harmonize conditions to operate TIs across research organizations
 Sustain TIs (way past their project needs)
 Adapt to developments of present and future Research Infrastructures (RI) in Europe
 Build a network of existing and future TIs including industrial partners
Riko Wichmann | AMICI WP3 Intro | 19. April 2017 | Page 2
Structure of WP3
> Task 1 lead by CEA: Definition of eligibility criteria
 Criteria based on technical spread, accessibility, innovation
 Industrial opportunities
> Task 2 lead by IFJ PAN: Networking and Coordination Model
 Networking relationship (loose exchange of information) exists among research
organizations
 Strengthen into coordinating relationships to join efforts for a better, more coherent
service
> Task 3 lead by DESY: collaboration agreement
 Variety of agreements / contracts exist
 Harmonize “agreements” among research labs with TIs, and industry

Benefits for industry:
> will have a simplified and supported access to the most adequate
technical platforms thanks to the stronger and optimized integration
model established among the large existing technological facilities

WP3.1: Eligibility Criteria
Work plan of task 1:
> The ‘analytic’ approach will allow:
 to support the integration into local, regional and global innovation systems,
 to identify synergies, complementarities and duplication
Riko Wichmann | AMICI WP3 Intro | 19. April 2017 | Page 7
> First step on the way: http://eu-amici.eu
 Developing list and description of AMICI TIs

WP3.2: Networking and Coordination Model
Work plan of task 2:
Understand
concepts
• 2/6 of work is
done
Look into present
situation
• 3/6 of work to
be done
Propose
improvement
• 1/6 of work to
be done
> Milestone M3.2 after 12 month (Feb ‘18):
 1st version of the report on Networking and Coordination Model

WP3.2: Networking and Coordination Model
Following subjects are going to be studied:
> What are the channels of communication between TIs, and of TIs with
others?
> Are there calendars shared by TIs?
> Are there meetings between TIs organized?
> Which conferences are in the interest of AMICI?
> Who is taking part in it?
> What rules/certificates are shared between TIs?
> How do entities look for partners?
> Are there any institutions helping in matching partners for projects?
>…

WP3.3: Collaboration Agreements
Work plan of task 3:
> Survey existing collaboration agreements, MoUs, “work-together”
contracts
 Start with DESY: with other research organization and with industrial partners (using
DESY infrastructure, expertise etc), respectively
 Extend to other AMICI partners
> Analyze documents and extract common content
 Of agreements between research institutes and between research institutes and
industry, respectively
> Propose a template
 Just the structure or (if possible) text blocks
> Milestone M3.3 after 18 month:
 Collection and analysis of existing bi- or multilateral
agreements between AMICI members and with other partners

Summary: Our expectations from Industry
> Express interest in the communication of the TI census of
Technological Facilities, e.g. through access to Web-site.
> Express interest in entering (own) Industry based Technological
Facilities in the AMICI census,
> and in discussing ‘cooperation’ framework.
