Position Description:
Motlow State Community College is seeking energetic, student-focused Completion
Coaches to assist new students as they begin their collegiate careers. The Completion
Coaches will be vital to putting MSCC students on the right path to degree completion.
The Coaches will serve as academic advisors and, in accordance with the retention and
completion agenda of the college, will meet with students, assess student needs, goals,
and interests, and review prior academic experience. The Coaches will ensure that
students have correct information regarding components of and requirements for their
programs of study. Completion Coaches will report to the Assistant Vice President of
Academic Affairs.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree is required, but a master’s degree is preferred for this position. The
successful candidate will work as part of a team. The position will require travel to
multiple campuses. The Completion Coach will have one of four campuses designated as
their home base. The successful candidate will adhere to strict confidentiality (FERPA)
and other ethical standards and will work 37.5 hours/week and be flexible in regard to
hours and days worked, especially during peak times. The Completion Coach must have
community college experience. Experience in Academic advising and familiarity with
Banner student database are preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
 Be knowledgeable of degree requirements and course offerings at Motlow State
Community College.
 Be knowledgeable about college procedures and policies.
 Work with new students to complete a plan for degree completion.
 Work with new students to address academic information such as college policies,
programs of study, degree options, appropriate course selection and fulfilling
degree requirements.
 Assist students in establishing academic and career goals.
 Collaborate with academic chairs and faculty to provide accurate and appropriate
program information and requirements.






Collaborate with academic chairs and faculty to facilitate smooth transitions for
students entering programs.
Participate in training and other professional development activities as requested
to remain current regarding all academic programs and changes as they occur.
Attend new student orientations throughout the year.
Use institutional and predictive data to identify academically at-risk students.
Utilize skills associated with high-touch advising to assist students with degree
completion.
Prepare students to move into programs requiring admission.
