Instructions on how to navigate our WIN (Water Information Network

Instructions on how to navigate our WIN (Water Information Network) tools to
access site data for surfacewater and groundwater sites in Gingin (and
elsewhere in the state).
Step 1: From our home page click on the “Tools and data” tab at the top of the page
(highlighted in white below). This will bring up the “Monitoring and data” page below.
Step 2: Click on the “Water level and quality monitoring” tab on the right hand side,
and you’ll get this page. Click on the highlighted “water resources data”.
Step 3: You’ll get the page below. Here you need to select either surfacewater or
groundwater. I’ve highlighted surfacewater in orange below: click on this tab to
search by site. You can also search by map, but this is a lot harder!!
You’ll need a specific site location number to search this way: these can be obtained
from most recent allocation plans (Gingin surfacewater and Gingin groundwater both
have tables in section 5) or by submitting a request to DoW.
For Gingin the ones you want are:
 The three Gingin surfacewater plan streamflow monitoring sites are:
o Gingin Brook 617058
o Bookine Bookine 617003 and,
o Molecap Hill 617165.
 There are 35 Gingin groundwater plan monitoring reference site numbers,
which are presented in the plan, but I’ve popped a table of them at the end
here for you.
So, using surfacewater site 617058 as an example:
Step 4: Clicking on “streamflow sites” above will give you this view: which is all the
surfacewater sites in the state. To find the one you want, search using the “Find”
command; “Ctrl” “F”, and then enter the site number. You could also search by name
(eg Bookine) but the site number is unique and may save you time.

Clicking on the site number link will bring up the available site information. Be aware
that how data is entered varies: for some of these Hydstra sites the raw data is
available, but it’s plotted annually – which may not be quite what you want...I think
2012 should be up soon. Many of the groundwater sites are plotted 3 or 6 monthly.
Groundwater looks like this: Repeat Steps 1-3, but then click “groundwater sites” and
you’ll get a similar page with all the groundwater sites listed, search using “Find” as
above (I’m using as an example site GL7W)
Click on its site ID number and the info looks like this:
Or – for surfacewater sites there is another way.....

For surfacewater you can access via River Monitoring Stations, and this shows all
the reports (including the 6 day reports) in one spot:
Step 1 (Repeat) but...
From the monitoring and data page, choose “River level monitoring” rather than
“Water level and quality monitoring” and you will get this page:
Step 2B:
Click on ‘graphical form’, under the River Level data heading, and you will get this
page:
Step 3B:

Pick “search” on the top right. Then pick “Water level” not rain. The form will then
look like below:
Enter the site number under “Station ID”, like we did before:
Click onto “Link to published plots and reports” on the right, and this will bring up all
of the available data for that surfacewater site.
Click on the highlighted blue to get that report.
For technical queries on either database you can email “Water Information”, who
manage the site, via the Monitoring and Data main page on the highlighted link
“Water Information Officers”.
I hope you find this helpful,
Best regards,
Allocation Planning.
