16th Annual Montana Athletes in Service Award
MAIS Award Presentation
When: Saturday, November 19, 2016, Kickoff: 12:00 Noon
Where: Washington Grizzly Stadium, Missoula, MT
How: Jane Karas, MTCC Board Chair and FVCC President, Governor Steve Bullock and other Board representatives
as assigned will make award presentations on the field during a timeout or break in the game.
Why: The award presentation has three specific goals:
1) Honor civically engaged student-athletes from MTCC campuses for their commitment and engagement
in community service;
2) Raise awareness for civic engagement programs at MTCC member campuses.
3) Highlight student-athletes as role models to encourage more civic engagement activities throughout
Montana.
Award Criteria and Process:

Each MTCC affiliate campus will convene a committee to nominate and select the student-athlete from
their campus to receive the award.

Each student-athlete will be considered for the award based on the following criteria:
a) amount of time spent on volunteer service to the community;
b) the type and number of partner organizations, schools and agencies served;
c) the student-athlete’s overall commitment to service; and
d) the impact or legacy left by the service.

Each campus will forward a completed recipient form for each student-athlete that will receive the MAIS
award to MTCC network office AND a recent digital photograph with a high enough resolution for
printing. Limit one outstanding student-athlete per campus.

Recipient Student Athletes must plan to attend the game to accept their award. MTCC is not
responsible for extra game tickets or access to the game for friends or family.

Campuses are responsible for any travel assistance for students.




Campus athletic, community service, service-learning or activities directors as well as other appropriate
faculty or staff may submit the nomination. Only one submission per campus will be accepted.

Game day Presentation Process
a. Student-Athletes must plan to ATTEND THE GAME. Please tell your recipients to be on hand to accept their
award on the field. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of this game, MTCC cannot obtain extra tickets for
friends or family.
b. The award is presented during a break in the Brawl of the Wild (Griz/Cat) football game. (It’s typically done
during half time, but has happened before kickoff and also between the 1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th quarters).
Whatever time spot works for home field game organizers. MTCC will advise once the specific time is selected.
c. At the timeout, the presentation group—including Board Presidents, Governor, MTCC Staff, and Student Award
recipients—walk onto the field. (North end zone).
d. The stadium announcer reads a brief announcement about the award and this year’s winners.
e. The Governor, Board Presidents, MTCC staff present the awards on the field to the award winners.
f.
The scoreboard displays Montana Campus Compact logo or the live feed of the presentation.
g. Presenters and recipients leave the field promptly and the game resumes.
h. For fans in attendance, there is a section in the game program listing the winners, photos, and a brief
explanation of the Montana Athletes in Service Award (MAIS).

More specific logistical guidance will follow, once campuses have submitted their awardees.
Montana Campus Compact is the state’s largest higher education network comprising 18 public, private, two-year,
four-year, community, and tribal colleges and universities. MTCC advances the public purposes of higher education
by supporting community service, service-learning, and other civic engagement activities among faculty, students,
and staff. MTCC supports campus-community partnerships via its service programs and awards.
