Background
Call for Papers
The field of materials and metallurgical engineering
has an enormous importance in the futuristic
progress and growth of a country. A tremendous
amount of research has been carried out in this field
for various technological innovations. In order to fulfill
the demands in various engineering sectors, several
leading institutions in the country, namely, The
Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Jamshedpur chapter,
NIT Jamshedpur, Tata Steel Limited and CSIRNational Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) have
been working together to nurture the young
metallurgists and inspire them to flourish into
dedicated professionals. This year, Indian Society for
Non-Destructive Testing (ISNT), Jamshedpur
Chapter has joined in organizing BTTD 2016.
"Behind The Teacher's Desk" (BTTD) is the annual
Students' Seminar, for the promising and aspiring
metallurgists, providing a befitting platform for
interaction of student and the experts from
industry/R&D/academia. In this event, the young
generation of professional metallurgists get an
opportunity to share their academic achievement,
innovation, creativity, sense of adventure and new
ideas in the field of metallurgy.
Interested student participants should submit an
abstract of 300 words (in MS word 2003 or 2007,
only) and send it by email to [email protected].
The abstract template is available at BTTD 2016
website. The abstract should be classified in one of
the following topics listed below with special
emphasis on Iron & Steel Industry. The abstract
must contain the title and the authors’ affiliation.
About the Seminar
Deadlines
Submission of abstract : May 16, 2016
Acceptance of abstract : May 23, 2016
Submission of Registration Form : May 31, 2016
1.Raw materials & Metal extraction
2.Materials processing and characterization
3.Non-destructive testing and evaluation
4.Damage mechanisms and failure analysis
5.Advanced materials and emergent technology
6.Materials modeling and simulation of metallurgical
processes
7.Energy, environment, recycling and product
remediation
8.Innovations in Iron & Steel
Innovations in the areas such as alternative to mould
powder in continuous casting of steel, development
of inorganic passivation to avoid rusting,
replacement of building materials by slag, use of
slime and non-coking coal for value added products
etc. are seen to be of promise for the economy of
steel industries and beneficial to the environment.
The BTTD seminar, held at the CSIR-National
Metallurgical Laboratory for the past five years, has
been a great success and has now become a sought
after event among students’ fraternity. The
participation of undergraduate and post graduate
students from across the country has been very high
and is increasing over the years. The seminar
provides a podium to the participants to share their
ideas and interact with scientists, eminent
metallurgists, engineers and entrepreneurs so as to
develop new skills in the field of metallurgy.
Students are requested not to use slides and
information from the web verbatim. Originality in
presentations is desirable.
