EF Coastal support in West Sussex 2017

Emerging Futures/CGL Transforming Recovery across West Sussex in 2017
Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Events.
ABCD events bring people together from around the county to promote CGL/EF recovery in
West Sussex. 2016 received an amazing response to the events promoting the whole
community approach to embrace recovery and importantly to look at more localised
recovery support in the county. The events in 2016 have resulted in additional multi-agency
joint working. Partnerships have given FREE localities for Pop Up support services to take
place in their areas across the county.

Small Sparks is open to those who live in West Sussex and in active recovery it can support
with Gym memberships/Acquiring Identification such as Passports/Community day
events/New support groups to localised areas/support those in recovery with upskilling
themselves by attending Accredited courses to name a few examples.
Community Worx forums across the county have been well supported with dates set for
forum members to drive forward this exciting initiative. For Further information contact Kev

council event where we supported the young people to
deliver Drug & Alcohol workshops – before sitting on the
Q & A panel “A day we will truly remember which has led
to a NEW support programme outlined below”.
Wellbeing coaches are actively recruited throughout 2017
to support the local needs of Coastal West Sussex

conditions and feeling disconnected from their community.
EF Wellbeing coaches provide a Hand in Hand support service for CGL clients to and From

This support by Emerging Futures also extends to the families affected. Family coaches
provide a pro-active opportunity for families of those in prison to seek support in the
community. The scheme invites those left behind to attend the Hot spot café events across
the county. In addition Home visit support can be provided to families left behind when
their loved ones go into custody. The home support programme will be co-delivered with
Child Family centre staff from across West Sussex. Employment Training and

EF Partnership volunteering opportunities
In addition to ETE Emerging Futures will be promoting volunteering opportunities plus back
to work opportunities via its Asset Based Register to support CGL staff and clients. This
project aims to create 50 new volunteering partnerships across the county to support those
in recovery to upskill and promote their ability to gain employment.
Our most recent Partners supporting EF/CGL are Arundel Wildlife and Wetland centre plus
Adur and Worthing Conservation Volunteers. In addition we have new partnership working
with David Lloyd Leisure along with Worthing Football club.
Local CVS team has supported CGL/EF with opening the doors to client’s coaches and staff
to support its outdoor green space projects across the county. In addition EF continues to
work with West Sussex county council to identify and develop Green space areas to support
local communities and develop further volunteering opportunities for all involved. The
Green sites developed are then simply GIVEN BACK to the community to enjoy and sustain
with the support of the Emerging Futures Volunteers.
Thank you to our new partners supporting Recovery in the community. For further

MBSR (Mindfulness based stress Reduction)
MBSR courses have rolled out across West Sussex to support those in recovery plus upskill
and support CGL staff. The programme has been overwhelmed with those wishing to
attend. The impact on those attending has been significant with real life time stories
available from those who have attended to share with others. The programme has
supported all those in recovery in the community plus those engaged with West Sussex
Probation.
The success of this programme has been acknowledged by partner agencies plus led to new
local requests from partner agencies to facilitate groups across the county. Feedback from
CGL staff has been outstanding, we hope to roll out additional MBSR training across the
West Sussex in 2017.
