PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Dear Members.
As you may be aware an incident occurred on the Sunday the 10 July 2016 where a Como player in the
under 17 D2 abused and pushed a referee during a game. As a result the player was sent off and
appeared at the Judiciary on Monday the 11/7/16.
The Cronulla Sutherland Junior Rugby League have suspended the player from competing in Rugby
league for a period of 15 years and has fined the club $5000.00 dollars but have suspended the fine
for a period of 12 months.
The executive of the Como Jannali JRLFC fully support the stance the JRL have taken and have also
suspended the player for a period of 15 years from the Como Football club.
I would like to remind all players, parents and supporter of this club, that no one has the right to
abuse or touch an official in our game. This club will not tolerate this behaviour and will not allow any
person attached this club to bring the game of rugby league or the club into disrepute.
As president of the Como Jannali JRLFC I have apologised to both the referee and officials involved in
the incident on the day and to the Cronulla Sutherland Junior Rugby League.
I would like to commend the swift action of other members of the team that prevented this incident
escalating into a more serious incident. You are a credit to your family, your team and this club.
All coaches, Managers and trainers are requested to attend a meeting next Tuesday the 19 July 2016,

U8 BLACK MATCH REPORT
(report from previous round)
Coach:

Manager:
Kim Murr
Date of Game:
2 July 2016
Opposition:
Kurnell Stingrays
Score:
Lost 34-20
Trainer:
Brandon Mannah
We had a slow start to the game this week, needing to borrow a player from Kurnell for the first 10
minutes. Then from a distance, we saw Rory come bolting toward the field ready for a big game. Rory
played his best game this season, scoring two tries, kicking a goal and tackling really well all game.
Hunter also scored two tries and it was good to see him put the ball down with two hands this week.
Taj continually put pressure on the opposition and never gave up chase. With his incredible speed he made
two try saving tackles and ran hard all day.
Aston nearly scored in the second 10 and played his position as dummy half really well.
Prince and Ky ran hard all game and Ky made a huge run getting so close to the try line once again.
Ethan played well making some brilliant tackles and his leadership on the field was great once again.
A highlight from the game was in the last 10 when Ethan went for a run and got so close to the line. He
offloaded to Aston, Aston offloaded to Rory, who then offloaded to Prince who then offloaded to Taj and
then Taj just missed out scoring another try.
Great effort again boys and better luck next week.

Gymea
Score:
Won 16-8

Gymea kicked off to begin. Como lost the ball. Sloppy start from both sides. Gymea scored 4-0 no
conversion.
Some great runs by the boys Kurt, Flynn and Dimi to get up to the line and Olly scored - 4-4 Elliott's
converted 6-4.
Gymea made a mistake from the kick off to give us a penalty.
Some great tackling by Como forced an error which lead to a great run from Flynn but was put out in
the tackle.
Another error from Gymea saw Como 25 m from the line, but just couldn't get there. A little bit of a
head clash showed some great sportsmanship from both sides.
Kurt saw an opening and took his chance a try from 60 m out 10-4 Elliott converts again 12-4.
Gymea made big mistake off the kick off giving the ball to us 10 in front, great team work saw Broc
score 16-4. Some massive tackles and great defence from Como.
Como let their defence down for 2 seconds Gymea saw their chance and went in to score 16-8 no
conversion.
A massive run from Caleb but a forced error saw thaw ball handed over!!
Dylan as usual some massive tackles.
Great footy, a penalty right on the bell gave us a kick at goal from the side line... Just hitting the post
and bouncing back
Final score 16-8 keeping our boys in the number 1 position on the ladder!!

As the season progresses this team is just getting better and better. Last week we played Gymea, who
are leading the competition. Due to school holidays and injury we took the field with 12 men. Every
player who put on a Como jersey should be proud of the effort they put in.
Every player showed courage and dedication . Every player contributed and did their job. Every player
in this team has proven what mateship can do on a football field. Even though we lost the game 16
point to 14, I have never been more proud of this team. I can smell victory. Stick together boys and
success will come.
Every player got 3 points for the game.

After a late change of ground, we were sent up to Kareela to play Joeys on their turf. The opening 10 minutes was
bruising. Very physical and big hits. Dan Wiseman and Sweeny were throwing everything they had at the joeys
defence.
Failing to find touch and a few costly errors cost the boys field possession and Joeys were able to march down field
with ease through their 2nd phase play and they scored 2 soft tries by our standard.12-0 down. The boys decided to
hit back. A few completed sets saw Sean Tabet kick down field and a never give up chase from skipper Geordie saw
the bounce go his way and he was under the post to make it 12-6.
We then attacked their line again and a great line from Wisey saw him under the sticks. 12 all.
Half time came and the message was simple, complete the sets, stay disciplined and we'll win the game. This didn't
help when 5 minutes into the first half and we had lost both hookers and a front rower. Down to one man on the
bench.
We tackled and tackled and tackled and the boys didn't give up. Joeys became frustrated with our boys defence but
we eventually became too tired and they scored 2 soft tries again. The boys never gave up. Led by Maffi and Shane
Cooper up front the boys kept coming and a great one on one attack so Brad Ellis dazzle his way to the try line with
blistering footwork!
We were still in it. Joeys managed to score again but that didn't deter us. Sam Morris has just pulled off a great
fullbacks tackle but copped a knee to the head for his troubles and was taken off. No reserves left.
The boys rallied. We attacked Joeys line and Anthony threw a lovely cut out ball to Fradge who stepped his man and
went over. 30-20 down.
With 7 minutes to go the boys never gave up. A great bomb from Lowey saw Sweeney chase hard got the ball and
scored under the posts. 30-26. With 2 minutes to go and one last roll of the dice we lost the ball trying to attack.
Unfortunately that would be the end of the game.
Not once did the boys give up and the coaching staff couldn't be prouder. With boys walking wounded they nearly
came away with it. Even Woody cracked a rib and kept playing.
Unlucky boys it was a great effort and a great game to watch!

10 July 2016
Opposition:

Score:

The conditions were very slippery and produced a slow start from both sides as the Como boys held it together in a
tight and even game within the first quarter. The forwards are tackling with enthusiasm, Sean Hughes and Dylan
Sparks seem to stand out. Jalem started off great and is fitting in well at the centre position. We seemed be able to
contain their runners in this game and we are continuing to play the game within their 20, although both side are
playing very well.
It is bonus to get back Andrew Sultana and Hayden Fepuleai as they provide a constructive attacking combination.
Before we knew it the opposition had dropped the ball and Dominic swoops in to run 40 metres to score under the
posts. The game from there picked up the pace and saw Como defending our line enthusiastically with Ezekiel
excelling in his new position as second row. Como began to rattle the opposition and eventually scored this magic try
as the ball went to the left on the sixth tackle to Taylor, he had ran out of room and then kicked across the field, it
was regathered by Como and the pursuing off-load to Nikita resulted in a try on the right side. Como ahead 10 to 6 at
the break.
Dominic was kicking well for field position. A result which ended with Ezekiel scoring a well deserved try in the right
hand corner. We appear to have returned to our old form from the early part of the season. But a relaxed moment
resulted letting them get a roll on and from that Caringbah beat our defence and scored.
The boys did not appear to retain the ball much in the second half and consistently had to defend the oncoming
attack. Keiran Bowden was very active at the back and supported Daniel Falconbridge playing a very safe game at
fullback and putting in a huge effort.
Because of the circumstances of a disjointed season it has been very hard to maintain a rhythm, our boys need to refocus on a proven method of winning games that is to graft out the grind and continue to maintain that grind to the
end of the game to claim the win.
The game ended early because of an injury to a Cronulla/Caringbah boy. We wish the player a safe and speedy
recovery.
