SBR market remained lackluster this week.
SBR EXW prices from Sinopec dipped twice on Jul 23 and Jul 25 respectively, totally
down by Yuan 1,000/mt. PetroChina as well as other private plants followed suit in
reducing prices.
For insiders had expectations on price cuts in advance, they showed little response on the
back of depreciation and most traders maintained bearish attitudes towards the future
market. Owing to the sparse inquiries and sluggish transactions, trader activity for quoting
highly weakened and wait-and-see sentiment spread throughout the market. Partial
quotations after being pushing down remained inverted.
As of Jul 26, in Qilu Chemical Town, ESBR1502 market quotations reached to Yuan
19,700/mt or so, down by Yuan 800-900/mt from Jul 19; ESBR1712 market quotations slid
to Yuan 17,300/mt or so, down by Yuan 800-1,000/mt from Jul 19.

This week, Asian SBR market prices underwent ups and downs. SBR market prices
experienced mild correction in China market while those in Indian market stiffened. The
deteriorated European debt crisis and slowdown in America’s manufacturing industry
continued pressing SBR market. SBR1502 Aug shiploads were quoted at
$2,900-3,000/mt, to which buyers showed strong resistance.
Additionally, it was hard for butadiene USD offers to exceed $2,500/mt CFR Asia and
insiders thinks that butadiene prices may recede next week.

6. SBR Market Forecast
The devalued NR futures, soft end-user demand and other unfavorable news attacked
SBR insider confidence. Though traders performed actively in selling goods and low-end
quotations successively emerged in the market, transactions lessened due to insiders’
“buy-up” mentality. SHFE prices declined by their daily limit, which exceeded insider
expectations and triggered SBR depreciation. After twice consecutive price cuts, SBR
market quotations generally got inverted, indicating the difficulties traders faced in selling.
As SCI knew, partial first-hand dealers, confronted with pressure on sales tasks, were
forced to purchase but downstream plants chose to stand on the sidelined, resulting in the
sluggish transactions.
SBR market is likely to continue falling and players should pay attention to the price policy
from sales companies as well as butadiene USD offers this week.
