Working Event
Abstract Application Process
You are invited to submit an abstract to showcase an area of work/project that you have
implemented or are currently working on for potential inclusion in a poster exhibition at
the joint 2016 ASHN/HEE NE Conference taking place on 6 April 2016 at Teesside
University.
This will be an opportunity to share innovation and expertise of work taking place
within the North East and North Cumbria. Abstracts shoulnd relate to areas of work that
is either in progress or has improved the quality of care and/or patient safety.
For example the panel are looking for:
Collaborative Working - Projects or initiatives that have been developed
through collaborative working with colleagues, partner organisations and local
communities for the benefit patient care and patient safety.

Innovation – Projects or initiatives that recognises the contribution to carrying
out quality improvement activities that introduce a new service or improve
ways of working for the overall benefit of improving quality of care for
patients.

Putting Patients First – Projects/initiatives that recognise the vital importance
of putting patients and the public at the centre of improvement within the NHS.

Adoption and Spread – Projects/initiatives that recognises the importance of
adoption and spread of quality improvement, sharing learning in a variety of
ways, by using clear communication methods and with evidence of adoption
and spread outside of the team/organisation/region.
Criteria on which your abstract will be judged:-



The abstract clearly states the primary theme or purpose and the context is
made clear
The abstract gives a clear and concise summary of project
There was a real problem identified and it was solved in a coherent fashion
using recognised quality improvement methods



The originality of the idea.
Demonstrates an outcome for patient safety and/or evidence of the effect on
the patient experience
Demonstrates how the learning might be shared more widely outside of the
team/organisation/region
All applications will be considered by a panel. The timetable below details key dates in
the application process.

Abstract Application guidance:

Projects must promote areas of work that is either in progress or has improved
quality of care and/or patient safety within the North East and North Cumbria.

Abstracts must be no longer than 500 words, with a max of 1 table/figure, and 3
references. Arial font, 12 point. Must not exceed one side of A4.

Contact details must be included so other delegates can get in touch with you
afterwards. All accepted abstracts will be collated into a booklet for delegates.
If your abstract is selected:
You will be notified by email whether your abstract has been successful.

You will be required to design a poster based on the contents of your submitted
abstract.

You will be allocated a poster board at the conference.

You will be responsible for printing and bringing your poster on the day.
Instruction for Posters Production:Should you be invited to submit a poster for inclusion in the showcase event– please
note the following:
Portrait orientation is preferred for posters.

For posters to be newly prepared – we suggest a size of A1.

For posters that have already been prepared – please indicate the size.
