Health Equity Research Bibliography February 20 – March 3, 2017 Spotlight on March 2017 Issue of Academic Medicine The March issue of Academic Medicine includes a collection of articles that explores the importance of understanding how social structures and structural competency influence health. "Structural competency" refers to the ability of health care professionals to address the systemic causes of health inequalities (e.g., racism, political structures, environmental factors). The collection examines how to integrate training and care delivery systems to better meet the needs of patients and how to teach and discuss these topics with physician trainees.
