Please ensure your child is at school no later than 08:50am each day, having eaten a good
breakfast. They should bring to school two blue handwriting pens, two sharpened pencils, a
ruler, rubber and a bottle of water. We will provide any other equipment needed, and fruit for the
children to eat between tests.
The tests are run by the Standards and Testing Authority and are external examinations.
Attendance for the tests is compulsory for all pupils. If your child is seriously ill, please phone
the school office straight away at 8am or email me at any time. We will advise you on
procedures available. It may be possible for your child to sit their test and go home afterwards.
If you have any questions regarding SATs week please do not hesitate to contact me.
Drop in Maths – Weekday Mornings
Every morning from 8am, Mrs Attridge will be supervising Mathletics sessions in the ICT suite
for any child in the year group wishing to do some extra maths revision. Children wishing to take
part should enter school via the main office at 8am. Unfortunately we are unable to provide
supervision for any brothers or sisters in different year groups at this time.
At St Mary’s, everyone is supported, challenged and secure in a caring Christian environment
Equipment and Presentation
The whole school is having a drive on the standard of presentation from our pupils. A reminder
that pupils are expected to write in blue ink pen for all subjects except Maths, where a sharp
pencil should be used. Please ensure your child has the correct stationery in school.
Swimming
Swimming starts next week for all pupils. The annual Year 6 Swimming Gala will take place in
July, the date of which is TBC.
Bowles Meeting & Sex Education Meetings
I would like to invite all parents to an information evening on Wednesday 21st May in the school
hall. The Sex and Relationships talk will show the DVD materials we will be using and also a
summary of the content to be covered. Immediately following will be a meeting covering
important aspects of the residential trip to Bowles, including what items to bring and logistics.
The meetings are intended for parents/carers only. If at all possible we ask that children stay at
home, however the ICT suite will be made available for any families where there is no possible
alternative solution.
The Sex & Relationships talk will begin at 6pm, with the Bowles meeting immediately after at
approximately 6:30pm.
If you are unable to attend the meetings but would like the slides sent to you, please do drop me
an email request.
Final Project Homework
We will be setting our final project homework after half term but for those people who would like
to think ahead the title will be: ‘What is the most important thing I have learnt whilst at St.
Mary’s?’ More details to follow before half term.
Yearbook
Now part of Year 6 tradition, this week the children will all be told how to sign up to create their
yearbook profile. A tutorial of how to access the website and log in will be put on Fronter this
week. All children have their own section, and we encourage everyone to upload as many
photos as possible to make the book a wonderful keepsake. You can order yearbooks through
WisePay, or paying by cheque. Yearbooks are priced at £14 each, and there is no limit to how
many you can order.
Play in a day
The Treehouse Theatre will be working with Year 6 on Thursday 22nd May on a play called ‘War
and Peace in Ancient Greece’. The children will be in their PE kit for the whole day. The cost for
this workshop is £4 per child. Please send this in either a named envelope or via WisePay.
At St Mary’s, everyone is supported, challenged and secure in a caring Christian environment
Transition Days
We are beginning our transition work with Oxted School and partner schools already to prepare
our children. If you feel your child would benefit from an additional visit to Oxted School please
do let me know. The Oxted School transition day is Tuesday 1st July. Pupils will spend the
whole day at Oxted School in their St. Mary’s uniform. Oxted School will advise what time they
need to be there and when to pick them up. Pupils do not come to St. Mary’s first in the
morning.
Leavers Assembly/Service/BBQ
I can hardly believe the time is already here but I would like to invite all parents to two very
important events. Our leavers assembly will be on Friday 18 th July at 2pm in the school hall. The
leavers service will be held in St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday 22nd July starting at 1pm. Our
leavers barbeque/party will be on Thursday 17th July at around 6:30pm.
With best wishes for the half term,
