Information
During Key Stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to choose to study a
number of qualifications in computing such as the Cambridge Nationals
Creative iMedia. This qualification is media sector-focused, including film,
television, web development, gaming and animation, and have IT skills
rooted in them. This qualification provides knowledge in a number of key
areas in this field from pre-production skills to digital animation.
25% External Examination
75% Coursework
These activities will provide an insight into the required knowledge and
skills needed to access Media in Key Stage 5.
Pupils have three lessons per week.
Course / Subject Structure
Term 1
Year 10
R081 (Pre-Production Skills) – Pupils will begin to understand pre-production
skills used in the creative and digital media sector. It will develop pupils
understanding of the client brief, time frames, deadlines and preparation
techniques that form part of the planning and creation process. This theory is
in preparation for the external examination.
R082 (Creating Digital Graphics) – Pupils will begin to understand the basics
of digital graphics editing for the creative and digital media sector. They will
learn where and why digital graphics are used and what techniques are
involved in their creation.
Term 2
Year 10
R082 (Creating Digital Graphics) – Pupils will continue to complete this unit
work which will continue to develop their learners understanding of the
purpose and properties of digital graphics, and know where and how they are
used. They will be able to plan the creation of digital graphics, create new
digital graphics using a range of editing techniques and review a completed
graphic against a specific brief.
R081 (Pre-Production Skills) – Pupils will continue to understand the purpose
and uses of a range of pre-production techniques. They will be able to plan
pre-production of a creative digital media product to a client brief, and will
understand how to review pre-production documents in preparation for an
external examination.
Term 3
Year 10
R081 (Pre-Production Skills) – pupils will take part in revision sessions and
practice papers in preparation for the external examination in May.
