Count-on-One Bingo using Count-on-One Cards Count-on-One cards Objective: o o Students will understand that the order of the addends does not matter in an addition equation. As adults we know this as the commutative property of addition, however, that terminology does not need to be used with the students. Students will learn that starting at the larger addend assists in finding the sum. Materials: Count-on-One dot cards or Count-on-One numeral cards Bingo card (one per person) Counters Rules: o o o o o o Give each child a set of count-on-1 dot cards (see below) and a blank bingo card Each child writes numerals 1 through 20 on their card in random order. Place Count-On-one cards face down in front of students. The youngest player goes first. The first player turns over a card and says, “I see ___ and one more makes ____. ____ add one is ____.” If the child has the sum on their bingo card, they cover it with a counter. If not, play continues to next person. The second players continues in the same manner until someone gets four in row.
