Rounders playing rules for the Primary Schools’ Rounders Festival – Tuesday 11th July 2017 at Chauncy School Each school team has 10 players consisting of 5 girls and 5 boys from either just year 5 or just year 6 or mixture of year 5 and year 6 Each match will be of one innings per team – of 22* good balls Your school will be placed in either the‘Leopards’ (spots) or the ‘Tigers’ (stripes) Festival with a round robin playing format. Your school will play every other school in your festival - so your team will therefore play 5, one innings, games. After the 5 games have been played the ‘Leopards’ Festival will have a winning school team and the ‘Tigers’ festival will have a winning school team The winning school team will be the team that has scored the MOST ROUNDERS IN TOTAL AFTER ALL 5 OF THEIR GAMES. This means that the Festival is rewarding strong hitting of the ball and quick running between posts when your school is batting plus accurate bowling of the ball plus quick fielding and good decision making when your school is fielding. School teams to use their own bats (clearly named). Match rounders balls will be used. These will be supplied by the Festival organisers Simplified playing rules from England Rounders will be followed: Batting: Once a match starts, the same playing order or batters must be used. Page 1 of 2 Out players: When ‘out’, players must sit or stand on the ‘out’ area away from the ‘in’ players. This allows the umpires to monitor the batting order Possible adapted rules for Festival on the day: *Number of good balls may be changed – depending on timings on the day * The bowling square may be moved closer to batting square if a number of no-balls are consistently being bowled. This new ‘square’ will be denoted by a cone. The bowler stepping out of bowling box rule will then not apply * A match ball (hard) will be used (supplied by the Festival organisers) unless schools ask to use ‘softy’ rounders balls. However all matches must use either the hard or soft ball H&WSSP Page 2 of 2
