Player Identification
 What we look for in players:
 Technical Ability
 Vision and Decision-Making
 Speed and Athleticism
 Character/Positive Attitude
 Defend/Attack transition
 Coachable
 Work Ethic
 Impact in the game
Tryout Structure
 Coaches used 12 month body of work for our current Loudoun
Soccer Travel Players in order to place them on appropriate
fields at 1st tryout
 1st tryout - Used to Quickly identify outside players (from LS
Rec or other Rec/Travel programs) to place on appropriate
tryout field with our players for assessment.
 After 1st tryout: coaches WILL begin to extend offers to
families.
 All players should still attend 2nd tryout
 After 2nd tryout: Start to extend invite to other players
Tryout Structure
 We have strict 24 hour decision policy. If a player needs
more than 24 hours, then we pass and move to the next
player.
 Example – call 7pm Monday - give until 7pm Tuesday. If
you have not heard back by then, the Club is moving on to
next player on list.
 Goal is to have age group teams complete within 72 hours of
final tryout.
 Players from outside our current Travel teams who do not
make it will be emailed by Age Group Head coach.
 Players from current travel team who do not make any team
must be called in person.
Navigating Tryout “Silly Season”
Tryouts can be a confusing and chaotic time
“Pressure” on players
Anxiety among parents
Misinformation and assumptions lead to bad
decisions and regrets
Navigating Tryout “Silly Season”
 Tips to Navigate the “Silly Season”
 Prepare your child physically: rest, hydration, nutrition
 Prepare them mentally: encourage them to stay
focused and try their best – avoid creating panic and
undue pressure
 Prepare yourself: breath deep, relax, don’t worry about
which “field” your child plays on – trust the process
 Discuss options: be prepared to accept/reject offer by
discussing pros/cons of options BEFORE offered
 This speeds up the process for all
 Address questions/concerns to coach, club, Evans
Malyi, and age group head coaches
Play Ups
 Player must excel in age group they are playing up
in
 If the Club decides a player may be able to play up,
we grant permission to “tryout” in that age group
AND their own age group
 All Play up requests are directed to
[email protected]
The Tryout (NEW) - Head Tryout Coach
 For 11U-16U - Club will assign a Head Tryout Coach
